Reliability, teamwork, and effective communication are important soft skills for maintaining productivity and quality standards. Co Packers primarily focus on packaging products for clients, often handling smaller batches and specialized packaging needs. Contract Manufacturers handle the entire manufacturing process, producing products from raw materials to finished goods. Co Packers often encounter challenges related to maintaining quality control while meeting tight production deadlines. Managing diverse client specifications and adapting to fluctuations in order volume can also be demanding. Effective communication with both the production team and clients, along with robust organizational systems, helps ensure consistency and customer satisfaction. Additionally, staying up-to-date with food safety regulations and investing in staff training are key to overcoming these challenges.

What is a Co Packer?

A Co Packer, or contract packer, is a company or individual that packages products for other businesses. They handle tasks such as filling, labeling, assembling, and packaging goods according to the client’s specifications. Co Packers are commonly used in the food, beverage, cosmetics, and consumer goods industries by companies that want to outsource their packaging processes. This allows businesses to focus on core activities like product development and marketing, while the Co Packer ensures products are safely and efficiently packed for distribution.

POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for a Senior Procurement Manager to lead strategic sourcing and commercial management of critical food manufacturing inputs — including commodities, ingredients, oils, sweeteners, and proteins — as well as co-packer and co-manufacturer relationships. This is a highly analytical, market-driven role reporting directly to the VP of Procurement. You will work cross-functionally with Operations, R&D, Quality, and Finance to ensure all materials and external manufacturing services meet cost, quality, safety, and delivery requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Strategic Sourcing & Category Leadership
    • Lead sourcing strategies for raw materials including commodities, ingredients, oils, sweeteners, and proteins.
    • Develop and execute category strategies aligned with cost, quality, service, and risk mitigation objectives.
    • Own procurement decision-making for direct materials and co-manufacturing/co-packing partnerships.
  • Should-Cost & Advanced Cost Analytics

    • Build and maintain detailed should-cost models by deconstructing supplier cost drivers (raw materials, processing yields, labor, energy, freight, overhead, and margin).
    • Apply total cost of ownership (TCO) frameworks to sourcing decisions, supplier selection, and co-packer evaluations.
    • Use data-driven analysis to challenge pricing, identify cost-out opportunities, and support negotiations.
  • Market Dynamics & Commodity Intelligence

    • Monitor and analyze global and domestic market dynamics impacting commodities, ingredients, oils, sweeteners, and proteins.
    • Track commodity indices, supply/demand trends, inflationary pressures, and geopolitical or weather-related risks.
    • Translate market intelligence into actionable sourcing strategies, contract structures, and pricing mechanisms.
  • Supplier & Co-Packer Management

    • Lead supplier and co-packer selection, negotiations, contracting, and performance management.
    • Manage complex commercial negotiations including price models, index-based pricing, capacity commitments, and SLAs.
    • Drive supplier development initiatives and dual-sourcing strategies to mitigate risk.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership

    • Collaborate with Operations, Planning, R&D, Quality, Finance, and Engineering to support production, innovation, and business growth.
    • Support new product development and line extensions through early ingredient and co-packer engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS and EXPERIENCES

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or related field.
  • 8+ years of procurement experience in food manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience sourcing commodities, ingredients, oils, sweeteners, and proteins.
  • Experience managing co-packers and co-manufacturers.
  • Proven track record in supplier negotiations and cost improvement initiatives.
  • Strong should-cost analysis and cost breakdown experience.
  • Advanced Excel skills; ERP experience required (SAP preferred).
  • Effective communicator and negotiator; comfortable working cross-functionally.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Domestic and international travel required as needed.
  • Bilingual Mandarin or Cantonese — a strong plus. 双语(普通话或粤语)优先考虑。
