Location: 6825 University Ave, Middleton WI

Status: Hourly non-exempt, represented, Full Time, 32 hours / week. All shifts

Supervision: No direct supervisory responsibility

About the Role: As a Deli Cook, you will work collaboratively with your coworkers to prepare and cook to order a variety of foods sold in the stores Deli department. You'll follow established recipes using quality ingredients.

Who You Are: You have a love of all things food and for using the best ingredients possible. You're able to maintain a clean cooking station and enjoy working with others to create mouth-watering dishes. You're passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity and inclusion.

What You'll Do: You will work with others in the deli to produce prepared foods and ensure that the food we offer is tasty, fresh, and attractive. You'll work together with your teammates to achieve the day's production list, which may include any of the following:

  • Determine which recipes need to be made each day by consulting the production sheets and current inventory

  • Strictly follow the system of documentation necessary to effectively meet HACCP standards

  • Utilize efficient cooking techniques and knife skills

  • Deliver properly labeled, completed dishes to storage or customers as appropriate

  • Work the deli counter, keep deli cases stocked and attractive

  • Maintain a clean and sanitized workspace

  • Maintain personal cleanliness including clean clothes, aprons, and person

  • Inquire about and integrate short dated items from other departments for use in deli specials

  • Understand cost of goods and margins, as it pertains to recipe development

  • Buy product as needed

  • Communicate signage needs and work with management to promote deli offerings

  • Greet and offer assistance to customers

  • Treat people fairly, consistently and with respect

  • Know product locations in order to assist customers in finding what they need throughout the store

  • Abide by all co-op policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and other company documents

  • Participate in required training and meetings

  • Keep the store orderly and clean.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Work Environment: Fast paced kitchen production environment with kitchen production machines and equipment and in cold/hot working conditions (i.e. cooler or near stove). Other moderate noise including but not limited to computers, paging, telephones and human voices.
