UC Health is hiring Nursing Co-Ops currently enrolled in the Nursing Program with University of Cincinnati.

Responsibilities
In this role you will provide direct patient care in the hospital setting. You will develop clinical skills as a nursing student. The Nursing Co-op Student provides direct patient care to individuals and/or groups as assigned by the Faculty Advisor and Clinical Preceptor.
  • Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient. Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems. Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
  • Performs direct nursing care, treatments and procedures in accordance with established policies and standards of the hospital as outlined in the plan of care. Delivers care in a kind, courteous and honest manner promoting the patient's sense of security. Promotes positive interactions by smiling, making eye contact, laughing and interjecting humor into work appropriate to the patient's culture and circumstances. Performs other duties as assigned
  • Identifies and communicates patient problems/needs and performed nursing interventions to the registered nurse assigned in a timely manner. Seeks guidance as needed when performing delegated nursing skills by utilizing resource persons, policy and procedure manuals, or other references on standards of care. Legally documents delegated observations and interventions in the medical record according to policy and procedure. Reinforces healthcare information/teaching, provided by the registered nurse, to the patient and family. Acts as patient advocate by preserving patient's rights, privacy and confidentiality. Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports all accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. Accepts constructive feedback and able to give accurate self-evaluation. | Review the physical demands and assign an overall average percentage of time this position performs these activities.

Qualifications
Currently enrolled in the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing BSN program. Successfully completed Junior year at date of hire. BLS certification.
