Job description

Powerex-Iwata Air Technology Inc.

As a part of the global industrial organization Marmon Holdings-which is backed by Berkshire Hathaway-you'll be doing things that matter, leading at every level, and winning a better way. We're committed to making a positive impact on the world, providing you with diverse learning and working opportunities, and fostering a culture where everyone's empowered to be their best.

Sales Engineering Co-op

Locations: Harrison, Ohio (rotation 1) - Mount Juliet, TN (rotation 2)
Term: Co-op

Come join Powerex, an industry leading provider of oil free compressed air and vacuum technology, where engineering excellence, innovation, and customer impact drive everything we do.
WHO WE ARE:
Powerex is an industry leader who designs and builds oil free compressed air and vacuum systems used in environments where performance matters most, from hospitals and laboratories to transit systems, and advanced manufacturing operations. For more than three decades, our teams of engineers, technicians, manufacturing and sales professionals have partnered with customers to solve complex technical challenges and deliver highly reliable, application driven solutions.

As part of Marmon and Berkshire Hathaway, Powerex offers the stability of a well-capitalized organization combined with the agility of a growing business. Employees have the opportunity to take ownership of meaningful projects, develop technical expertise, and build long term careers while contributing to systems that support critical infrastructure across multiple industries.

WHY CHOOSE THE POWEREX SALES ENGINEERING CO-OP:
Are you an engineering student who enjoys working with people to solve technical problems? The Powerex Sales Engineering Co-op program provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience at the intersection of sales, engineering, business, and customer engagement. Unlike traditional engineering co-ops, this role provides exposure to the business side of engineering. Students work alongside experienced sales professionals to learn how complex engineered systems are specified, built, sold and supported. You'll visit customer sites and interact with industry professionals, while developing communication and leadership skills that set you apart from traditional engineering graduates.

Position Summary

The Sales Engineering Co-op will support the sales team in expanding Powerex's presence in the medical piped equipment and laboratory markets. The co-op will assist with territory management, customer support, product education, and market development activities while developing a strong understanding of consultative, relationship-driven technical sales, customer needs and industrial systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the sales team with quotation, submittal, and follow-up activities
  • Learn about the Medical Gas and Laboratory Gas industries - products, applications, markets, sales cycles
  • Learn how to go to market with a distribution network
  • Participate in customer visits, sales calls, and training sessions alongside senior sales staff
  • Assist with product and application training materials and presentations
  • Conduct market research, competitor analysis, and account tracking
  • Maintain and update customer and opportunity data in CRM systems
  • Learn about industry regulations, particularly NFPA 99

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Currently pursuing a BS/BA degree (Engineering, Business, Sales, Marketing, or related field preferred)
  • Interest in technical or consultative sales and engineering-driven products
  • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills
  • Ability to interact professionally with engineers, contractors, and customers
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and take initiative
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; CRM exposure is a plus
  • Technical curiosity - experience or coursework related to engineering systems is beneficial but not required
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA

Travel Exposure

Co-op students will have opportunities to travel with experienced sales professionals to:

  • Visit hospitals, laboratories, and industrial facilities
  • Meet consulting engineers and contractors
  • Participate in customer training events
  • Observe how technical solutions are evaluated and specified

Travel expenses are fully covered.

What You'll Gain

  • Real-world experience in technical, consultative sales
  • Learn how engineered systems are specified, sold, and supported
  • Hands-on mentorship from experienced sales and engineering professionals
  • Develop professional presentation and customer-facing communication skills
  • Exposure to healthcare, laboratory, and industrial markets
  • Experience working with distributors, contractors, consulting engineers, and facility owners
  • Explore a career path that combines technical sales with an engineering skill set.
  • Many successful co-op students are considered for future co-op rotations or full-time opportunities with Powerex upon graduation.

Following receipt of a conditional offer of employment, candidates will be required to complete additional job-related screening processes as permitted or required by applicable law.

We are an equal opportunity employer, and all applicants will be considered for employment without attention to their membership in any protected class. If you require any reasonable accommodation to complete your application or any part of the recruiting process, please email your request to careers@marmon.com, and please be sure to include the title and the location of the position for which you are applying.
