Summary/Objective: HarperXS is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented Estimator to join our growing Preconstruction team in Greenville, SC. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their construction career who is eager to learn the estimating and preconstruction process while working alongside experienced construction professionals.


The Estimator will assist with preparing budgets, reviewing subcontractor pricing, performing quantity takeoffs, participating in project walkthroughs, and supporting the Preconstruction and Business Development teams throughout the pursuit of commercial construction projects. This role offers hands-on experience and opportunities for professional growth within a collaborative team environment.


Essential Functions:

  • Assist in preparing estimates and budgets for small to medium-sized commercial construction projects.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and project documents.
  • Draft and prepare written proposals for projects.
  • Solicit and organize subcontractor and supplier pricing.
  • Assist with subcontractor bid reviews and scope comparisons.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and project site walkthroughs.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs with guidance from senior team members.
  • Help maintain subcontractor and vendor relationships.
  • Maintain pricing database with input from Trade Partners and vendors
  • Utilize construction technology and software to support estimating and preconstruction efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Preconstruction, Business Development, and Operations teams to help deliver competitive, accurate proposals.
  • Collaborate with Operations team during the project handoff process.
  • Ability to utilize Gordian Estimating Software and Procore Bid Management platforms.
  • Continuously develop estimating knowledge and construction industry expertise.


Required Competencies:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Comfortable managing workload to hit agreed upon deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.
  • A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and strong attention to detail.


Preferred Competencies:

  • Internship or co-op experience in construction.
  • Experience with Procore or other construction management software.
  • Experience working for a construction subcontractor, supplier, or general contractor.
  • Basic understanding of commercial construction methods and materials.
  • Previous work with a Mechanical, Electrical or Plumbing trade/contractor.

Work Environment: Typical office hours, Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM. Hours may vary depending on demand. 80% Sitting, 20% standing or walking.
Physical Demands: When visiting a jobsite, this position is required to work in a variety of conditions relative to construction jobsite environments and must be able to perform the physical requirements of the job, as assigned. This role may require walking over varied terrain, climbing, stooping, bending and lifting. Lifting requirements vary from minimal loads to heavy; but help is always available with heavier loads.
Travel Required: Travel requirements are based on Project Assignment. The responsibilities of this position will primarily be performed in the Upstate of South Carolina with minimal (10% or less) overnight travel. When assigned to a project outside of your Primary Work Area or Geographical Work Area you will follow the guidelines in our "Travel Policy." There may be a business need for overnight stays when working on a project some distance from your assigned office or your home. A valid US Driver's license is required.

Bachelor's degree in Construction Science Management or something similar.
