At a Glance

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer I to join the Data Center Power & Control Team in Reno, NV.

The Mechanical Engineer I supports the development and commercialization of electromechanical hardware used in datacenter power distribution systems. Working within the New Product Development (NPD) team, this role assists with mechanical design, prototype development, testing, and engineering documentation for new and existing products. The position collaborates closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Product Management to ensure designs meet performance, manufacturability, and compliance requirements.

The Mechanical Engineer I, as with all members of the Legrand Team, is expected to promote a positive attitude, demonstrate initiative, professionalism, personal awareness, integrity, and exercise confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Design

· Assist in the design of electromechanical products including power distribution units, busbar systems, and related datacenter infrastructure hardware.

· Design sheet metal enclosures and mechanical components using CAD tools while applying DFM/DFA principles.

· Evaluate materials, components, and manufacturing methods to support product performance and manufacturability.

Engineering Documentation

· Create and maintain 3D models, drawings, and Bills of Material (BOMs) using CAD and PLM systems.

· Generate documentation packages supporting prototype builds, product testing, and manufacturing release.

· Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) including updates to drawings and product documentation.

Prototype & Testing

· Support prototype assembly and product validation activities including fit checks and mechanical testing.

· Assist with product verification testing and documentation of test results.

Cross-Functional Support

· Work with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure designs are production-ready.

· Support certification activities with regulatory agencies such as UL, CSA, and ETL.

· Maintain accurate engineering data across CAD, PLM, and ERP systems.

· Other duties as assigned


Education & Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· 0–3 years of engineering experience including internships or co-op programs.

· Experience with electromechanical products or power distribution equipment is a plus.

Skills

· Experience with CAD software; Autodesk Inventor and Vault preferred.

· Familiarity with PLM systems, engineering change control, and BOM management.

· ERP system experience (SAP preferred).

· Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.

Working Conditions

· Occasional work in manufacturing or lab environments where PPE may be required.

· Ability to support prototype builds and testing activities.

· Work environment is fast-paced and priorities can shift quickly. All employees are expected to go outside their primary responsibilities when required, and multi-task job duties on a regular basis. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs/ladder; balance; stoop, kneel crouch or crawl; talk, and hear. The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
