Cnc Wire Cut Programmer information

What is a CNC wire cut programmer?

A CNC Wire Cut Programmer is responsible for creating and optimizing wire EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) programs to cut precision parts from metal and other conductive materials. They interpret engineering drawings, select appropriate cutting parameters, and use CAD/CAM software to generate toolpaths. In addition, they set up and troubleshoot CNC wire cut machines to ensure accuracy and efficiency. This role requires knowledge of machine operations, material properties, and quality control standards to produce high-precision components.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CNC wire cut programmer?

To thrive as a CNC Wire Cut Programmer, you need strong knowledge of CNC programming, mechanical drawing interpretation, and precision measurement, often backed by a diploma or certification in mechanical engineering or machining. Familiarity with CAD/CAM software, wire EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) machines, and specific controls like FANUC or Mitsubishi is essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help professionals excel in this role. These skills ensure high accuracy, efficient workflow, and effective collaboration with machinists and engineers in a manufacturing environment.

What are some typical challenges faced by CNC wire cut programmers, and how can they be managed?

CNC Wire Cut Programmers often encounter challenges related to programming complex geometries, maintaining tight tolerances, and optimizing machining cycles to minimize waste and downtime. Managing these challenges requires a deep understanding of both the software and the physical machining process, as well as proactive troubleshooting and communication with the production team. Staying updated on new technology and regularly reviewing machining strategies can also help mitigate common issues. By embracing continuous learning and teamwork, programmers can enhance efficiency and ensure high-quality results in fast-paced manufacturing settings.

How much do CNC Wire Cut Programmers earn?

CNC Wire Cut Programmers typically earn between $40,000 and $70,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Skilled programmers with certifications and proficiency in CAD/CAM software may earn higher salaries and additional benefits.

Is there a demand for CNC wire cut programmers?

CNC wire cut programmers are in steady demand due to the need for precision manufacturing in industries such as aerospace, automotive, and tooling. Skilled programmers who can operate and troubleshoot CNC wire EDM machines with knowledge of CAD/CAM software are particularly sought after, especially in manufacturing regions with advanced production facilities.

You'll take parts from setup through final inspection on equipment ranging from a large 5-axis gantry mill and multiple large horizontal boring mills to VTLs and a full mix of 3-axis and manual machines.

Why Join Us

  • High-impact parts: Your work goes on F-16s and the International Space Station.
  • Rare shop: One of the only true aerospace machine shops near Knoxville.
  • Stay on 1st shift: Start on days and keep days

Compensation

  • $27 – $33 / hr

Hiring on 1st and 2nd Shift

  • 2nd Shift: 5:30 PM – 3:30 AM, Monday – Thursday (optional)

What You'll Run

  • Classic 3-axis CNC mills and lathes
  • Manual mills, lathes, and saws
  • Large 5-axis gantry mill
  • Multiple large horizontal boring mills (HBMs)
  • Large vertical turret lathes (VTLs)
  • Exotic materials for flight-critical applications

Responsibilities

  • Setups: Perform complete setups, touch-offs, and tool offsets on short-run parts.
  • G-Code Edits: Modify programs at the controller to troubleshoot and hold accuracy.
  • Close-Tolerance Machining: Cut complex geometries in exotic materials for flight-critical parts.
  • Manual Machining: Run manual mills, lathes, and saws for secondary operations.
  • Blueprints & GD&T: Interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T callouts.
  • Program Verification: Prove out MasterCam programs with engineering to improve efficiency.
  • Inspection: Check finished parts with precision measuring tools to AS9100D standards.
