Job description

Who We Are
We are a visionary design and fabrication shop serving agencies, events, retail, construction, and anyone seeking to create extraordinary projects together. We aren't a cabinet shop, our CNC team is not comprised of rigid machinists. We are curious and innovative, because that is what the type of work we excel at requires.
Leveraging cutting-edge digital manufacturing technologies, our deep fabrication expertise, and decades of invaluable experience, we deliver unparalleled quality products, surpassing industry standards. With our extensive in-house capabilities, we handle projects at any stage, from concept to installation. Our CNC department is five people strong and home to three 3-axis Thermwood routers, a 5-axis large-envelope Royce router, and a 7-axis Kuka robot. Our programming capabilities include: Mastercam, PowerMill and Cabinet Vision.
About the Role
We're looking for a CNC Department Manager to lead our team of eager, fast learning CNC programmers and operators. This role calls for someone who can strike the right balance between structure and flexibility. Someone who can hold the team to high standards and follow through on processes but also knows when to adapt and think on their feet when things get hectic. Sometimes that means exploring a creative workaround or testing a one off solution.
This is a key leadership position in the CNC department, where your expertise will shape how we manage resources, train our team, maintain quality, and hit our production goals. You'll need solid hands on experience with CNC machines and tooling across a range of materials like wood, high-density foam, and plastics. A strong understanding of fabrication workflows and project scheduling is essential.
Day to day, you'll take in new work, schedule it out, and match projects with the right people based on their skills and workload. Once production is underway, you'll track progress, coach where needed, and help drive a culture of accountability and growth. Your team will rely on you for guidance, mentorship, and the opportunity to level up through cross training and clear, achievable goals.
You'll also be the point person for making sure the CNC department stays aligned with company processes, ERP systems, and long term goals. Admin and leadership will turn to you to help shape how the department operates, now and into the future.
This role reports directly to the Head of Manufacturing, and works closely with them to allocate resources, plan ahead, and keep everything moving on time.
Who You Are
You're a hands on leader with a strong mechanical background and a solid track record of managing and mentoring teams. You'll be leading a team of CNC Programmers and Operators, guiding them with both your technical skills and your leadership know how.
You're not the kind of manager who just sits on the sidelines- your CAM and CNC experience allow you to jump in and program when needed. You're organized, collaborative, and able to work closely with teams across Projects, Purchasing, Engineering, and Fabrication to make sure parts are delivered to the floor accurately and on time.
Ideally, you've worked in a design driven industry, but what really matters is your deep understanding of fabrication and manufacturing processes. You know CNC inside and out, from CAM and programming to operating 3-axis milling machines, and you're quick to troubleshoot when things don't go as planned.
You understand that efficiency comes from both well-tuned machines and well-managed data, and you never stop looking for ways to improve both. If you like the idea of working with a skilled team that's building something new every day, we'd love to meet you!
Success
The CNC Manager must thrive in a dynamic work environment under high-pressure deadlines; someone that will ebb and flow with the needs of our clients, our company, and the industry. They have an insatiable curiosity to contribute to the continuous improvement and growth of the department and Axiom.
Constant collaboration and adaptability to change will be key for success in this position and a high-performing work environment. You'll know you're succeeding when work is completed within labor-hour constraints, safely and in compliance, with timely, organized, and accurate delivery of CNC made parts. You've hit your marks when your team is engaged, enjoy their roles, care about the bottom line, and they stick around for the long haul.
The Reward
This position includes a competitive compensation (from $80k - $100k) and benefits package, investment options, 10 days of accrued PTO in year one and 20 days of accrued PTO in year two and beyond, in addition to paid holidays. Our benefits are some of the best in our industry! We believe in fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment that encourages collaboration and growth.
