Job description
The CNC Technical Specialist is a hands-on manufacturing support role responsible for CNC programming, fixture design, process development, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position provides significant shop floor support, working closely with production associates to improve safety, quality, productivity, and equipment performance. The CNC Technical Specialist serves as a technical resource, coach, and trainer, partnering with Engineering, Operations, and the Training Department to develop team member skills and standard work practices.
A Day In The Life
- Design fixtures and work-holding solutions to support efficient manufacturing operations.
- Develop, program, set up, and optimize CNC machining processes, including program prove-outs and process improvements.
- Evaluate machining methods, tooling, setups, and programs to improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost effectiveness.
- Provide daily shop floor technical support, troubleshooting, and guidance to manufacturing associates.
- Partner with Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations teams to implement new products, processes, and equipment improvements.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on scrap reduction, productivity gains, cost savings, and process standardization.
- Create and maintain standard work, process documentation, and work instructions.
- Coach, mentor, and train team members on CNC machining, setups, tooling, programming, quality requirements, and standard work practices.
- Collaborate with the Training Department to develop and maintain training materials and skill development programs for new and existing associates.
- Support capital projects including equipment specification, installation, startup, training, and transition to production.
What will help you thrive in this role?
- Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Machining Technology, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- 5 years of CNC programming, setup, and machining experience.
- 3 years of G-code programming experience.
- 3 years of CAM software experience (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360) for toolpath generation and program development.
- 3 years of Inventor or SolidWorks 3D modeling experience.
- Strong knowledge of CNC machining, fixture design, tooling, machining processes, and precision measurement techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, shop floor support, coaching, and training to manufacturing associates.
- Experience with tooling analysis, tool selection, and tool life optimization to improve cycle time, quality, and cost.
- Experience developing training materials, standard work, and manufacturing documentation preferred.
