What does a CNC Programmer Production Manager do?

A CNC Programmer Production Manager oversees the programming and operation of computer numerical control (CNC) machines in a manufacturing environment. They are responsible for creating and optimizing CNC programs, managing production schedules, ensuring quality standards, and supervising a team of CNC operators and programmers. This role combines technical expertise in CNC machining with leadership and organizational skills to maximize efficiency and productivity. Additionally, they often coordinate with other departments to meet production goals and troubleshoot any issues that arise on the shop floor.

How does a CNC Programmer Production Manager balance hands-on programming tasks with overseeing production operations?

A CNC Programmer Production Manager often divides their time between developing and optimizing CNC programs and managing day-to-day production activities. They are responsible for ensuring that machining processes run smoothly, troubleshooting technical issues, and maintaining high-quality output. In addition to programming, they coordinate with machinists, engineers, and quality control teams to meet production goals and deadlines. This dual focus means strong organizational and communication skills are essential, as the manager must prioritize tasks, delegate responsibilities, and continuously monitor workflow efficiency.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CNC Programmer Production Manager?

To thrive as a CNC Programmer Production Manager, you need expertise in CNC programming, manufacturing processes, and leadership, often supported by a degree in engineering or manufacturing and relevant industry experience. Familiarity with CAD/CAM software, ERP systems, and certifications such as Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing are commonly required. Strong problem-solving abilities, communication, and team management skills make candidates stand out in this role. These competencies ensure efficient production workflows, high-quality output, and effective team coordination in a manufacturing environment.
