Position Summary

Cummins Aerospace is seeking an experienced CNC Mill-Turn Setup Operator / Machinist to join our precision aerospace manufacturing team.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC mill-turn equipment and manufacturing complex, tight-tolerance aerospace components. This position requires strong machining fundamentals, attention to detail, and the ability to independently set up equipment, inspect parts, troubleshoot machining issues, and maintain production requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently set up and operate CNC mill-turn machines.
  • Perform complete machine setups including tooling, jaws, fixtures, workholding, tool offsets, and work offsets.
  • Operate equipment utilizing live tooling, C-axis, Y-axis, sub-spindle, and multi-axis machining functions.
  • Read and interpret complex aerospace engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T.
  • Perform first-piece and in-process inspections.
  • Use precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, indicators, and other inspection tools.
  • Adjust tool and work offsets to maintain dimensional requirements.
  • Make minor CNC program edits and adjustments at the machine when required.
  • Monitor tool life and replace or adjust cutting tools as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot dimensional, tooling, setup, surface finish, and machining problems.
  • Work closely with CNC programmers, manufacturing engineers, quality personnel, and other machinists to resolve production issues.
  • Maintain accurate production, inspection, and traceability documentation.
  • Meet production schedules while maintaining quality requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce setup time, cycle time, scrap, and rework.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area using 5S principles.
  • Follow all company safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures.

Requirements: Qualifications
  • 3+ years of CNC machining experience preferred.
  • CNC mill-turn or multi-axis machining experience strongly preferred.
  • Aerospace machining experience preferred.
  • Ability to independently perform CNC machine setups.
  • Strong blueprint and en gineering drawing interpretation skills.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T.
  • Ability to manufacture and inspect tight-tolerance components.
  • Working knowledge of CNC G-code and M-code.
  • Experience machining aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, nickel alloys, and other aerospace materials is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of CNC machining experience.
  • Advanced mill-turn setup experience.
  • Live tooling and sub-spindle experience.
  • C-axis and Y-axis machining experience.
  • Multi-axis machining experience.
  • Aerospace manufacturing experience.
  • Experience producing first-article components.
  • Experience working within an AS9100 quality management system.
  • Ability to make CNC program adjustments at the machine.
  • Experience improving tooling, setup methods, and machining cycle times.
Quality Expectations

The CNC Mill-Turn Setup Operator / Machinist is responsible for producing components that meet all drawing, customer, and company quality requirements.The machinist is expected to verify their work through first-piece and in-process inspection and immediately stop production and report any suspected nonconforming condition.

Compensation

$30.00–$42.00 per hour, depending on experience and demonstrated skill level.Compensation will be based on the candidate's ability to independently set up and operate CNC mill-turn equipment, troubleshoot machining issues, maintain tight aerospace tolerances, and consistently produce quality components.Highly experienced candidates with advanced mill-turn, multi-axis, programming, and aerospace machining capabilities may qualify for compensation above the posted range.
