Job Summary

To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we're looking to add a CNC Programmer - Sheet Metal Fabrication located in Henrico.

Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the CNC Programmer - Sheet Metal Fabrication role is responsible for creating, optimizing, and maintaining CNC programs for sheet metal fabrication equipment, including laser cutters, punch presses, press brakes, and related automated machinery.

This role works closely with engineering, estimating, production, and quality teams to ensure efficient manufacturing processes, material utilization, product quality, and on-time delivery. The CNC Programmer will develop nesting strategies, troubleshoot production issues, and support continuous improvement initiatives within the fabrication department.

What a typical day looks like:

  • Create and maintain CNC programs for sheet metal fabrication equipment utilizing CAD/CAM software.

  • Develop efficient nesting layouts to maximize material utilization and reduce scrap.

  • Program laser cutting, turret punch, combination punch/laser, and press brake equipment.

  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and customer specifications.

  • Verify manufacturability of designs and provide feedback to engineering on design improvements.

  • Generate setup sheets, tooling requirements, and operator instructions.

  • Optimize machine run times and improve production efficiency through continuous program refinement.

  • Support first-article inspections and troubleshoot fabrication issues on the shop floor.

  • Collaborate with estimators to provide accurate manufacturing cycle times and material requirements.

  • Maintain revision control of programs, manufacturing documents, and process records.

  • Assist with implementation of automation technologies, robotic systems, and advanced manufacturing processes.

  • Conduct root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality and production issues.

  • Ensure compliance with company safety standards and quality requirements.

  • Train operators on program usage, setup procedures, and best practices as needed.

The experience we're looking to add to our team:

  • Associate degree in Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 3+ years of CNC programming experience in a sheet metal fabrication environment.

  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software such as: JetCam, Amada 4i, Inventor, SolidWorks, Similar manufacturing software platforms

  • Experience programming CNC laser cutting, turret punch, and press brake equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and fabrication blueprints.

  • Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes and manufacturing methods.
