Job description

Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a 1st Shift, CNC Operator IV for our City of Industry, California location.

Born from many well-known and long-standing brands, Howmet Fastening Systems, headquartered in Torrance, California, is the premier designer and manufacturer of aerospace and industrial fasteners, latches, fluid fittings and installation tools. Our products are used nose to tail on commercial and military aircraft, as well as on jet engines, industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, wind turbines, solar power systems, and construction and industrial equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
•    Good communication skills & knowledge of basic shop math 
•    Able to read, write and understand basic instructions in English 
•    Ability to write routine reports and correspondence 
•    Able to lift/move up to 30 pounds regularly 
•    Able to learn how to use measurement instruments
•    Ability to follow direction
•    Ability to complete first piece verification 
•    Maintain a good attitude and be willing to learn
•    Communicates effectively with other team members and Production Team Leader
•    Ability to become certified in lock out/tag out
•    Be familiar with Human Performance tasks 
•    Able to perform entry level set-ups 
•    Understand the speeds and feeds pertaining to the machine they are operating (where applicable) 
•    Knowledge of all measuring instruments and gages for their operation
•    Able to speak effectively before groups of co-workers, customers, auditors, etc.
•    Able to read and interpret blueprints
•    Working knowledge in manufacturing and quality processes and principles 
•    Able to comply to all SPC daily Requirements (if applicable)
•    Able to understand and maintain machine complements (when applicable)
•    LOTO certified 
•    Understands the speeds and feeds pertaining to the machine they are operating (where applicable) 
•    Understanding of cutting tools (and offset geometry) 
•    Proven demonstration of algebra/trig mathematical skills 
•    Perform first piece verification process per part number 
•    Able to be cross trained others as required 
•    Able to assist supervisor and lead person in the training of CNC Operator I-VI
•    Understanding of "G" and "M" Codes 
•    Ability to understand and demonstrate troubleshooting 
•    Ability and willingness to be trained on the complex CNC set-ups 
•    Proven demonstration of hitting the run standards per work order 
•    Must have full understanding of the CNC control functions (e.g. Fanuc) 
•    Ability and willingness to program using different speeds and feeds
•    Be able to run all CNC machines brands and models (Haas, Takamaz, Gildemeister, Muratec)
•    Must be able and willing to train CNC Operators I-IV
•    Able to demonstrate proficiency at programming or 
•    Certified as programmer required
•    Have excellent troubleshooting skills 
•    Be willing to cross train and/or assist other departments to meet facility goals 
•    Understand programming requirements such as; Siemens, Sinumerik and Fanuc controls 
•    Make necessary correction to programs per drawing/blueprint as required 
•    Proficiently sets up, operates, and trouble shoots machinery for self/others 
•    Independently able to run the large multiple spindle machines (Takamaz & Haas)
•    Independently run hi torque Takamaz slotting machines
•    Independently run hand fed HAAS and automatic Takamaz
 


Basic Qualifications:

  • 7 years’ of CNC experience required
  • CNC Certificate required
  • Employee must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant’s ability to lawfully obtain access to such items

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
