Job Title: Machine Operator
Department: Packaging
Location: On-site 
Shift: Rotating, 12 hour Night Shift (Red), 6:00 pm - 6:30 am including some weekends 
Wage: Starts at a base of $21.00/Hr. with additional $2.00/Hr. shift differential

Position Overview: The Machine Operator assists in the setup and operation of packaging machinery, including, but not limited to, form and fill machines, hopper feed systems, product screeners, automated scales, metal detectors, label applicators, bag inserters, case erectors, automated box and package printing systems, and various types of conveyor systems.

Key Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
  • Assists with the setup and operation of production line equipment.
  • Accurately maintains daily production logs that are legible and orderly.
  • Monitors quality control throughout entire packaging process
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures and operates all equipment in a safe and food-safe manner.
  • Complies with Bob’s Red Mill food safety policies and procedures including adherence to FDA regulations, Safe Quality Food (SQF) Standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Responsible for reporting food safety and quality concerns to Supervisors and/or Department Manager.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • None.
  • This position reports to the Production Supervisor and Packaging Manager.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Possesses effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Ability to work effectively with a team using direct communication and respect.
  • Proficiency with basic hand tools, machine setup, and machine operation.
  • Ability to use a hand-held RF scanner to allocate components.
  • Familiar with Redzone, including correctly coding machine downtime.
  • Ability to read, understand, and communicate operational and safety information in English.
  • Demonstrates Respect, Teamwork, Accountability, and Determination.
  • Ability to work in an environment where exposure to potential food allergens is or may be present.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; OR
  • Any combination of education and additional years of experience that provides the necessary skills, knowledge, and ability to perform assigned tasks.
  • Previous experience as a Forklift Operator, Machine Operator, or similar role in the food manufacturing industry preferred.
Physical Demands:  
  • Frequently requires the ability to lift and stack products weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Position may require standing for up to 4 hours at a time.
  • Position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Work Environment: 
  • The primary work environment for this position is within a food manufacturing environment.
  • Use of personal protective equipment such as helmets, ear plugs, and hairnets are mandatory, and use of non-slip shoes is recommended.
  • Employees will be exposed to common food allergens.
