Job Title: CNC Operator

Job Description

This role focuses on operating heavy industrial CNC and related machinery in a steel fabrication environment. You set up and run equipment, perform precise measurements, and ensure products meet strict quality and production standards. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to follow detailed instructions, and comfort working in a fast-paced, industrial setting on a third-shift schedule.

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC and other heavy industrial machinery safely and efficiently in a steel fabrication environment.
• Set up product and materials on brake press and other machinery according to specifications and work instructions.
• Read and interpret basic blueprints to understand part requirements and machining steps.
• Use measurement tools, including tape measures and calipers, to verify product dimensions and ensure accuracy.
• Follow step-by-step instructions and standard operating procedures throughout the production process.
• Measure product at key stages of production to confirm tolerances and quality standards.
• Notify maintenance or supervisory staff immediately if product tolerances are off or equipment issues arise.
• Perform minimal deburring of product to remove sharp edges and prepare parts for the next process.
• Utilize a hand crane and other material-handling equipment to move material safely on and off the production line.
• Meet established production output targets while maintaining quality and safety standards.
• Complete documentation related to errors, measurements, and product completion accurately and in a timely manner.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all housekeeping and safety guidelines.
• Participate in training on day shift during the initial 3–4 weeks and apply learned skills to third-shift work.
• Work collaboratively with supervisors and team members within assigned departments to support overall production goals.

Essential Skills

• Proven heavy industrial machine operating experience, preferably in steel fabrication or steel cutting environments.
• Hands-on experience with CNC machine operation or general machine operation in a production setting.
• Ability to read and interpret measurement tools, including tape measures and calipers, with high accuracy.
• Ability to read and understand basic blueprints to guide machine setup and product requirements.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with industrial equipment and tools.
• Ability to follow detailed, step-by-step instructions consistently and accurately.
• Capability to meet production output requirements while maintaining quality standards.
• Willingness and ability to work third shift (11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.) after completion of training.
• Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work area in a heavy industrial environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with brake press machine operation is highly desirable.
• Experience in steel fabrication or steel cutting processes is strongly preferred.
• Comfort working in loud, dirty, and temperature-variable industrial facilities.
• Ability to work effectively within a set team and under the guidance of a supervisor.
• Readiness to participate in several weeks of hands-on training on day shift before transitioning to third shift.
• Steel-toe boots with laces are required as part of the safety attire.
• Experience in foods, GMP, or automotive environments is not aligned with this role’s requirements.

Work Environment

You work in a heavy industrial steel fabrication facility with approximately 120 employees that is expanding to three total shifts. The facility consists of two older buildings and includes large areas of CNC machinery, weld booths, and extensive racking systems. The environment is loud and dirty, with temperatures that can be hot in warmer months and cold in winter. You work in specific departments alongside a supervisor and a set team, using equipment such as CNC machines, brake presses, and hand cranes. The organization is actively working to upgrade the facility. Steel-toe boots with laces are required as part of the dress code and safety standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dyer, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.50 - $29.20/hr.
