SUMMARY
Under direct supervision, this position operates light and medium road and construction equipment and trucks. Responsibilities include performing skilled, semi-skilled and manual unskilled work in the construction, maintenance, and drainage of alleys, streets and other City properties. Generally works with an Equipment operator and has little supervisory responsibility. This position will be required to work shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime as needed by the department, and during inclement weather. This position is considered weather essential personnel.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operates a variety of light and medium road and construction equipment in the construction, maintenance, and drainage of paved and unpaved streets and alleys.
  • Operates trucks of 2 1/2 ton to 10-12 cu. yd. (50,000 GVW) capacity in moving or hauling dirt, gravel, base material, and trash.
  • Checks and maintains all vital parts of equipment are operational.
  • Operates front-end loaders or heavier equipment as needed.
  • Cleans and maintains equipment.
  • Performs manual work when necessary to assist in the performance of various tasks.
  • Operates equipment in other comparable pay categories or be willing to train if needed.
  • Completes daily job reports.

• This position is subject to 24 hour emergency call out and may be required to carry a cellular phone on a rotational shift arrangement.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one year of experience in the operation of light and medium construction equipment or trucks.
  • Valid Texas Class "A" CDL Driver's License, with "X" endorsement, is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to operate medium-sized trucks and equipment i.e.: 10-12 cu.yd. trucks, front-end loaders of 1 1/2 cu.yd. capacity.
  • Ability to operate both manual and power tools.
  • Ability to operate computers for data entry and word processing.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skill.
  • Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
