Job description


The CNC Machinist II is responsible for the set-up and operation of CNC and manual machines as well as the inspection of parts. Must have the demonstrated skills to follow written instructions and responsible for monitoring the equipment to its full capacity. Must have the demonstrated ability to perform work according to specifications and company quality standards.
  • Proficient in the setup, use and maintenance of CNC Lathe and CNC Vertical Mill inclusive of 5, 4 and 3 axis milling machines. This includes interacting with all aspects of a machine's controls and operating software as well as comprehension of tool touch off procedure with understanding of tool compensation and wear offsets to deliver product within specification.
  • Responsible for the changeover of product with basic set up, including; work holding fixtures, stops, datum offsets and indicators. Monitors wear conditions on all cutting tools to determine replacement frequency.
  • Ensures work area, machine tooling and parts are cleaned regularly and free from excess oil deposits; maintains coolant and machine lubrication fluid systems, must use a refractometer.
  • Receives work orders and verifies that the components are correct. Regularly meets or exceeds production quotas.
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply critical thinking to design solutions for complex issues.
  • Responsible for cross training while allowing versatility in machining and positive business continuity.
  • Serve as a problem solver and troubleshoot all maintenance and address error issues on all machines. In the event the issue might be out of the scope of a machinists' skill set, consult with the programmer and/or facilities to address the problem.
  • Determine and implement cutting tool offsets, use MDI and assist programmer with editing programs. Evaluate and act upon machine alarms and error messages. Trouble shoots and repair equipment when not operating properly. Determine and implement alternative tooling approaches when the need arises. Identify root causes of problems and resolves without supervision. Ability to stream line machining processes.
  • Participates in activities related to new product development and implementation into production.
  • Trains CNC Machine Operators & Machinists on machinery, including but not limited to training and mentoring. Proposes continuous improvement opportunities for all processes. Will document and submit to management all necessary revisions to Work Order Routings, Work Instructions and Quality Inspection documentation.
  • Operates various secondary and special purpose machines including drill presses and trademarking fixtures, in addition to mechanical presses along with performing deburring product and chip cleaning operations.
  • Collaborates with management to identify manufacturing issues and assists with cross training efforts, when necessary.

8+ years of machining experience on CNC equipment and related degree or equivalent combination of both
Good communication skills in English, including the ability to read, write and understand
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical instructions such as blueprints and work instructions
Excellent attention to detail
Demonstrates exceptional teamwork
Ability to drive others to exceed goals
Ability to work independently in a high volume, fast paced work atmosphere
Basic skills in MS Office Suite
Ability to work overtime, as scheduled
Ability to lead/train (CNC operators I & II, Machinist I) while participating as first line of support including but not limited to mentoring
College Level manufacturing certification
Complies with lean standards of manufacturing
