What are CNC Machine Operators?

CNC Machine Operators are skilled workers who set up, operate, and maintain computer numerical control (CNC) machines that cut, shape, and finish metal, plastic, or wood parts. They interpret blueprints or instructions, load materials, monitor machine operations, and inspect finished products for quality. Their role is essential in manufacturing industries where precision and efficiency are required. CNC Machine Operators often work with engineers and quality control staff to ensure products meet specifications and deadlines.

What Does a CNC Machine Operator Do?

The job duties of a CNC machine operator involve working on the setup and operation of a computer numerical control machine. In this career, your responsibilities may also include the maintenance of equipment. CNC machine operators control operations by using geometric code (G-code) to program an automated task. Manufacturers use CNC machines for a variety of products and purposes, including metalwork and auto parts manufacturing. A machine operator may inspect the output during production to assess quality.
