What are CNC Machine Engineers?

CNC Machine Engineers are professionals who design, program, operate, and maintain computer numerical control (CNC) machines used in manufacturing. They develop and optimize processes to produce precision parts and components from materials such as metal, plastic, or wood. Their responsibilities also include troubleshooting equipment, ensuring quality control, and collaborating with other engineers to improve efficiency. CNC Machine Engineers play a vital role in industries like automotive, aerospace, and electronics where high accuracy and repeatability are essential.

What is the difference between Cnc Machine Engineer vs Cnc Programmer?

AspectCnc Machine EngineerCnc Programmer

Job description

CNC Machinist – Swiss or Lathe

$30–$38 per hour | Day Shift | Stable, PrecisionDriven Shop
If you’re a handson CNC Machinist who enjoys owning your work from setup to finished part — and you’re not looking for endless overtime or chaos — this could be a great longterm home.
We’re partnering with a wellestablished precision manufacturing team seeking an experienced CNC Swiss Machinist or CNC Lathe Machinist to join their production floor. This is a role for someone who goes beyond pushing buttons and takes pride in setups, edits, print reading, and precision measurement.

Why machinists like this role:
  • Consistent schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00am–3:30pm
  • Very little overtime (rare Saturday mornings only when needed)
  • Competitive hourly pay: $30–$35/hr (nonexempt)
  • Report directly to an approachable Production Manager
  • Clean, organized shop with strong safety and quality standards
The work you’ll be doing:
You’ll be responsible for producing highquality machined parts that meet tight specifications — owning the setup, operation, and basic program edits needed to get the job done right.

Depending on your background, you’ll work with:

  • CNC Swiss machines (Star SR20J / SR10J and Citizen preferred)
    or
  • CNC Lathes (Miyano experience strongly preferred)
All machines run FANUC controls.

What they’re really looking for:
This is not an entrylevel operator role. They’re looking for someone who can:
  • Perform full machine setups from setup instructions.
  • Make tool changes and offsets while jobs are running.
  • Read and interpret blueprints confidently.
  • Use micrometers and precision measurement tools daily.
  • Run multiple machines as assigned.
  • Make basic CNC program edits as needed.
  • Document production and quality data accurately.
You’ll also help support and train lessexperienced operators and contribute to a teamfocused, continuousimprovement environment.

Skills that matter here:
  • Strong blueprint reading & math skills.
  • Solid communication — written and verbal.
  • Comfortable with computers (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Organized, detailoriented, and safetyminded.
  • Team player who takes pride in a clean, wellrun workspace.

Experience & background:
  • 4+ years of handson CNC experience (setup, operation, and program editing).
  • Experience with Swiss lathes, CNC lathes, CNC mills, or related equipment.
  • Background with manufacturers such as Citizen, Star, Tsugami, Miyano, Robodrill, Conquest is a strong plus.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (trade school preferred).

Physical requirements:
You’ll be on your feet for most of the shift and should be comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs and handling small, precision parts.
