Job description

Summary: The Laser Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC laser cutting machines to produce high-quality steel components used in DuraClass truck bodies and hoists. This position ensures accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to all safety and quality standards while supporting Lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives within the Fabrication Department.

Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate CNC laser cutting machines according to work orders, blueprints, and part drawings.
• Load and unload sheet metal, steel plates, and other raw materials using overhead cranes, jib booms, or manual handling.
• Monitor machine performance, make necessary adjustments, and verify part dimensions using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, tape measures).
• Perform part nesting, material utilization, and minor programming edits at the machine as needed.
• Inspect finished parts for quality, ensuring cut edges meet tolerances and finish standards.
• Maintain accurate documentation of production runs, material usage, and quality checks.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance on laser equipment.
• Keep work area organized and clean in accordance with 5S and continuous improvement practices.
• Identify and report equipment malfunctions or material issues to supervision promptly.
• Assist with cross-training and support other Fabrication processes when required.
• Follow all safety rules, PPE requirements, and company procedures to maintain a safe work environment.

Work Environment:

    • Regular exposure to noise, fumes, sharp edges, and hot materials.
    • Requires the use of PPE including safety glasses, safety boots with steel-toe and metatarsal guards, gloves, and hearing protection.
    • Must be able to perform tasks that involve bending, lifting, and reaching in a production environment.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
