Job description

Certified Medical Assistant
Galen Medical Group offers several medical specialties throughout the Chattanooga region. We provide quality care and patient-friendly services to adults and children of all ages. Our mission is to elevate the health of our community through multiple medical specialties providing excellent care delivered with wisdom, compassion, integrity, and a commitment to technology, education, and scientific inquiry. We are seeking qualified, like-minded Certified Medical Assistants to join our team.
This position will work in the Cleveland office on Monday and Tuesday and the Chattanooga office on Wednesday and Thursday
4 days per week, approx 30- 32 hours weekly
Summary/Objective:
Collaborates with the provider to determine the needs of the patient and assists the provider with providing quality medical care to the patients.
Essential Functions:Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit.
  • Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; reporting patient history summary.
  • Collects data accurately and ensures that all information is entered into the patient's medical record in EHR.
  • Prepares and stocks examination and treatment rooms.
  • Clean and sterilizes instruments.
  • Assists provider with minor office procedures.
  • Schedules Outpatient testing, Procedures or Surgeries.
  • Manages Referral process
    • Hospital Admissions
    • Testing and Procedures
    • Pre-certification
  • Triage patient phone calls per site's protocol.
  • Process Prescription Refill requests per Physician's protocol.
  • Performs Ancillary testing: EKG, Spirometry, Cryotherapy, etc.
  • Laboratory testing may include Rapid Tests, Urinalysis, Bilirubin, Auto CBC, and Phlebotomy.
  • Reviews lab and test results. Provide follow up to patient per provider's instructions.

Other Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Provide health education to the patient as needed.
  • Performs all duties in compliance with Galen's clinical policies and OSHA standards.
  • Maintains clean and neat work area.
  • Active participation in process improvement efforts.
  • May be required to assist other team members based on office demands.
  • Recognize and demonstrate cost-effective measures in utilization of supplies and equipment.

  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient, medical, financial, and legal information.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be a Certified Medical Assistant from a nationally accredited institution.
  • One year of relative medical assistant experience in the clinical setting is required if completion of a Medical Assistant program qualification is not met.
  • 1-3 years' clinical medical assistant experience is preferred.
  • Electronic Medical Record experience preferred.

Experience:
  • Previous Clinical and Phlebotomy experience is preferred.
  • Individual must be BLS trained and certified at all times.
  • Must be computer literate.

Skills/Certifications:
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and work as a team player.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Ability to follow clinical pathways and protocols.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to handle higher-stress phone calls.
