George Fox University's IT department is seeking a highly skilled and motivated team player to fill the role of Senior Systems Engineer


About the Job:

The Senior Systems Engineer will work with the institutional technology team to provide technology infrastructure that meets the needs of students and employees. They will design, build, secure, and maintain systems using best practices. By partnering with teams throughout the University, the individual will help align institutional resources with the university's mission.


Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Designing and implementing Infrastructure as a Service
  • Designing and implementing cloud services like Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services.
  • Designing, implementing, securing and maintaining servers and storage, both on prem and in the cloud, supporting all aspects of university infrastructure.
  • Assisting the Director of IT infrastructure with departmental planning, design, and implementation of the university's technology infrastructure.
  • Assisting the Director of Cybersecurity with attesting for the security of cloud and on-premise infrastructure services.
  • Managing software installations on servers supporting all aspects of university infrastructure.
  • Researching new and alternative technologies to ensure the department continues to move forward, applying industry best practices and providing appropriate services to the university.
  • Assisting in planning and implementing disaster recovery protocols.
  • Managing accounts, authentication tools, and file sharing.
  • Assisting the security team to make sure our infrastructure is monitored and secured.
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation for university systems
  • Providing support and troubleshooting for multiple systems used throughout the university.
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated experience working cross-culturally with respect, appreciation and humility.

A day in the life of this position:

A Senior Systems Engineer will design, manage, secure, and maintain the server, storage, and backup infrastructure, physical, virtual, and cloud hosted. They will oversee various authentication methods, including Active Directory, Single Sign-On, and file sharing. Additionally, they will provide support and troubleshoot multiple systems.


We're looking for candidates who have:

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with cloud solutions like Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services.
  • The ability to understand and program in various scripting languages including but not limited to Ansible, Terraform, Bash, Python, and PowerShell.
  • Experience working with Gemini and other AI systems.
  • Experience working with virtualization, storage, and backup solutions.
  • Experience working with Windows, Linux and other operating systems including setup, maintenance, and following best practices.
  • Experience provisioning and managing file shares, databases, and user accounts
  • Experience with configuring and maintaining Single Sign On solutions.
  • Experience with security and monitoring systems.
  • Experience with disaster recovery procedures
  • Familiarity with network protocols including DNS, DHCP, LDAPS, SMB, SMTP.
  • Experience installing and maintaining open source software.
  • Working knowledge of networking and firewalls.
