Job description

The role:

The Senior Support Engineer will be part of the Galileo Technical Operations team. You will be part of a team environment working to continuously improve our production platform. An essential part of the role is to develop a deep understanding of the Galileo systems that support the business deliverables across all platforms. The Senior Support Engineer will be responsible for designing, managing and supporting highly-available distributed systems in AWS, ensuring the reliability of the production environment, enhancing processes to improve efficiencies and implementing effective governance controls.  

What you'll do:

  • Provide 24x7 on-call application support on a rotational basis and ensure system availability
  • Record all incident-related information in real time, including actions taken, decisions made, and status updates
  • Maintain highly available and scalable services in a highly available production environment.
  • Participate in weekly activities and change windows for deployment. 
  • Monitor systems, capacities and provide technical support for issues that impact or degrade applications
  • Engage during incidents, help provide high level issue explanation. Perform incident scribe functions to capture timelines and details and assist in incident root cause analysis (RCA).
  • Provide technical support for non-incident related issues to resolve impacts to interfacing customer applications
  • Generate ideas for new initiatives and technologies to improve observability
  • Perform trend analysis of application logs, system performance management data, et cetera to identify performance issues and drive improvements to ensure optimal performance
  • Mentor other engineers, support the technical culture, and help grow the team
  • Lead the development and testing of our auto healing systems.

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Experience with log aggregation tools such as Splunk, Datadog, Coralogix (DataDog strongly preferred)
  • Experience writing Oracle SQL queries
  • Team first mentality
  • Strong self-starter requiring minimal supervision
  • 5+ years AWS Cloud Experience
  • Strong Unix/Linux background
  • Ability to write scripts using at least one of shell (bash, ksh) or Python (Python preferred)
  • Experience with Gitlab deployment pipelines and knowledge of CI/CD best practices
  • Experience working in or orchestrating Argo, Kubernetes or Docker is a plus
  • Argo or other CI/CD tools experience is a huge plus
  • Curiosity to learn new applications and technologies
  • Aptitude and drive to run after problems and identify solutions
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate well with other teams
