What does a cloud security manager do?

A Cloud Security Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the security of an organization’s cloud computing environments. This role involves developing security policies, implementing protective measures, monitoring for threats, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. Cloud Security Managers work closely with IT teams to safeguard sensitive data, prevent unauthorized access, and respond to security incidents. Their goal is to ensure that cloud-based systems and data remain secure and resilient against evolving cyber threats.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a cloud security manager?

To thrive as a Cloud Security Manager, you need in-depth knowledge of cloud platforms (such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), cybersecurity principles, and relevant regulations, often backed by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with security tools, cloud management systems, and certifications like CISSP, CCSP, or AWS Certified Security are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, leadership, and effective communication skills help you manage risks and lead security teams. These skills ensure the protection of cloud infrastructure and sensitive data while supporting organizational compliance and resilience.

What are some common challenges a cloud security manager faces when ensuring compliance across multiple cloud platforms?

Cloud Security Managers often encounter challenges in maintaining consistent security policies and compliance standards across various cloud providers, each with unique tools and configurations. Ensuring data privacy, managing access controls, and keeping up with evolving regulations can be complex in multi-cloud environments. Effective collaboration with IT, legal, and compliance teams is crucial to monitor risks and implement unified security frameworks. Staying proactive with audits and continuous monitoring helps address these challenges and supports organizational compliance goals.

What is the difference between Cloud Security Manager vs Cloud Security Engineer?

Job description

FieldAI's Irvine team is where embodied AI meets real robots, real sensors, and real field deployments. Based in the heart of Southern California's robotics ecosystem, we build risk-aware, reliable, field-ready AI systems that solve the hardest problems in robotics and unlock the full potential of embodied intelligence. If you want your work to ship, get tested on hardware, and improve through real deployments, Irvine is the place. We go beyond typical data-driven approaches or pure transformer-only architectures, combining rigorous engineering with learning systems proven in globally deployed solutions that deliver results today and get better every time our robots run in the field.
About the Job
The Infrastructure Security Engineer will secure the cloud infrastructure and deployment platforms powering FieldAI's autonomous robotic systems. You will work closely with engineering teams to design, assess, and improve the security of large-scale distributed systems operating in production environments. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on Kubernetes security, cloud-native infrastructure, CI/CD systems, software supply chains, identity and access management, and production deployment platforms. Your work will directly impact the reliability, resilience, and security of critical infrastructure supporting real-world autonomous system operations.
What You'll Get To Do
  • Design and improve the security architecture of cloud-native infrastructure and Kubernetes environments
  • Secure CI/CD systems, software supply chains, build pipelines, and deployment workflows
  • Improve identity, authentication, secrets management, and access control across production systems
  • Harden Kubernetes clusters, containerized workloads, and runtime environments against modern attack vectors
  • Conduct threat modeling and security reviews across infrastructure and operational systems
  • Partner closely with engineering teams to integrate practical security controls into development and operational workflows
  • Investigate vulnerabilities affecting production infrastructure and help drive remediation and resilience improvements
  • Help define security standards and best practices for large-scale distributed systems and operational infrastructure

What You Have
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field
  • 5+ years of experience in infrastructure security, cloud security, platform security, SRE, or related domains
  • Strong software engineering, systems engineering, and networking fundamentals
  • Experience securing cloud infrastructure and distributed production systems
  • Experience with Kubernetes, containerized environments, CI/CD systems, and infrastructure automation
  • Familiarity with identity and access management, secrets management, authentication systems, and secure infrastructure design
  • Experience with threat modeling, security architecture reviews, vulnerability management, or adversarial security assessments
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally across infrastructure and engineering teams
  • Practical engineering judgment and the ability to balance security, operational reliability, scalability, and development velocity

The Extras That Set You Apart
  • Experience securing large-scale distributed or cloud-native systems
  • Familiarity with software supply chain security, artifact signing, or build provenance systems
  • Experience with runtime security, Kubernetes security, or production infrastructure hardening
  • Background in platform engineering, SRE, infrastructure engineering, or cloud-native operations
  • Experience with offensive security, penetration testing, or adversarial infrastructure assessments
  • Experience supporting operationally critical or mission-critical production environments

Our salary range is generous and we consider each individual's background and experience when determining final compensation. Base pay may vary based on role scope, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and the Irvine, California market.
Why Join FieldAI in Irvine?
In Irvine, you will work where the robots are. Our local team builds and tests systems on real hardware with real sensors, then ships them to operate in unstructured, previously unknown environments around the world. We are solving one of robotics' hardest challenges: reliable deployment outside the lab. Our Field Foundational Models™ raise the bar for perception, planning, localization, and manipulation, with an emphasis on explainability and safety for real-world use.
You will collaborate with a world-class team that thrives on creativity, resilience, and bold thinking. We bring deep experience from organizations such as DeepMind, NASA JPL, Boston Dynamics, NVIDIA, Amazon, Tesla Autopilot, Cruise, Zoox, Toyota Research Institute, and SpaceX, along with a track record of field deployments and strong performance in DARPA challenge segments.
Be Part of the Next Robotics Revolution
We are looking for builders who want their work to leave the whiteboard and show up on robots. If you enjoy tackling tough, uncharted questions and working across disciplines, you will find your people here. Our teams span AI, software, robotics engineering, product, field deployment, and technical communication, all focused on shipping systems that perform in the real world.
Our headquarters is in Irvine, and we partner closely with teams there as well as colleagues across the US and around the world. Join us in Southern California and help define what dependable, field-ready autonomy looks like.
We value diverse perspectives and are committed to fostering an inclusive workplace. We evaluate candidates and employees based on merit, qualifications, and performance, and we do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, national origin, ethnicity, veteran status, disability status, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, or any other legally protected status.
We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
