Cloud Engineer - Hybrid | Birmingham, AL
A growing and highly respected organization is seeking a Cloud Engineer (FinOps) to join its technology team. This is an exciting opportunity for a cloud professional who enjoys combining technical expertise with financial analysis to drive cloud cost optimization and operational efficiency.
In this role, you'll partner with engineering, architecture, finance, and operations teams to ensure cloud investments are delivering maximum value while maintaining scalability and performance. You'll have the opportunity to influence cloud strategy, implement FinOps best practices, and develop solutions that improve visibility into cloud spending across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and analyze cloud usage and spending, identifying opportunities for cost optimization and resource efficiency
  • Collaborate with engineering and finance teams to improve cloud cost allocation, reporting, and governance strategies
  • Manage cloud pricing programs, committed-use agreements, and discount structures
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, reporting tools, and cost-monitoring solutions
  • Investigate billing anomalies and proactively address unexpected cost increases
  • Support automation initiatives related to budget monitoring, reporting, and alerting
  • Partner with cloud engineering teams to integrate FinOps principles into infrastructure and deployment processes
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cloud performance, scalability, and financial efficiency
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in cloud engineering, cloud operations, DevOps, FinOps, or related disciplines
  • Strong experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services and cloud cost management
  • Knowledge of cloud financial management principles and FinOps methodologies
  • Experience analyzing large datasets using SQL, BigQuery, or similar tools
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform
  • Experience creating dashboards and reporting solutions using tools such as Power BI, Grafana, or Looker
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional communication skills
