How much do cloud economist jobs pay per year?
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Cloud Economist position, and why are they important?
To thrive as a Cloud Economist, you need a solid understanding of cloud cost management, financial modeling, and expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, often backed by a degree in finance, economics, or IT. Proficiency with cloud billing tools (e.g., AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management), data analytics platforms, and relevant certifications like AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner is highly valued. Strong communication, analytical thinking, and stakeholder management skills are essential for effectively advising technical and non-technical audiences. These skills are crucial for delivering actionable insights that optimize cloud spending and align technology investments with business objectives.
What are some typical challenges a Cloud Economist faces in their daily work?
Cloud Economists frequently encounter the challenge of balancing business priorities with optimal cloud resource usage and cost efficiency, especially as organizations grow and adopt complex multi-cloud strategies. They must analyze large volumes of usage data, anticipate future cloud spending, and clearly justify recommendations to both technical and financial stakeholders. Staying current with ever-evolving cloud pricing models and service offerings is also essential. These aspects make the role dynamic and require continuous learning and cross-functional collaboration.

Job description
Are you motivated by solving business challenges of organizations. Would you like to be part of a cross-functional team focused on guiding enterprises on their journey to the cloud. Do you have deep business acumen, strong analytical and communication skills, and the ability to break down, structure and solve complex problems.
Join our team and be at the forefront of cloud economics as a Sr. Business Development Manager. Ideally, you're someone who has worked with enterprise customers and helped them benchmark, understand, and improve the business value that cloud technology can bring to their business.
Now you're looking to amplify this capability by building programs and initiatives to scale through stakeholders and to drive impact to a greater number of customers. You will be the Center of Excellence that enables and influences internal and external resources to improve their effectiveness and efficiencies. You will pilot new business value focused initiatives with customers by collaborating with cross-functional teams including Sales, Business Development, and Cloud Economics.
The ideal candidate is energized by ambiguity and uses strong business judgment to build new programs or initiatives with minimal guidance
You are customer-obsessed; you habitually work back from the customers' needs and pain points in defining and prioritizing your work. You are comfortable with complex queries using SQL, analyzing and diving deep into data, and communicating clearly and concisely to senior leaders or customer executives. You measure success by outcome and continuously inspect both approach and output to incrementally raise the bar over time.
Key job responsibilities
- Explore new and better ways of helping customers understand the value of the cloud through new metrics and benchmarks
- Execute go-to-market motions with business development plans and collaterals for internal and external customers
- Create scalable mechanisms and programs to drive standardization and adoption of best practices
- Work with AWS Sales, Cloud Economics, Business Development and Marketing teams to understand customers' challenges and develop solutions to meet these challenges
- Drive operational and strategic planning with leadership based on the voice of the customer
About the team
