Position Overview

The Cloud Architect manages the architecture of an organization’s cloud environment to ensure the scalability, agility, optimization, security, integration, compliance, and interoperability of cloud-deployed capabilities. This role is responsible for analyzing the requirements of a federal agency’s applications and capabilities and establishing the underlying cloud foundation needed to host and support those services. The Cloud Architect works with Cloud Engineers and Cloud Security personnel to define cloud infrastructure, networking, and deployment approaches for agency systems.


Key ResponsibilitiesCloud Architecture and Infrastructure Design
  • Manage the architecture of the organization’s cloud environment.
  • Ensure cloud-deployed capabilities are scalable, agile, optimized, secure, integrated, compliant, and interoperable.
  • Design and deploy cloud-based solutions efficiently and effectively.
  • Analyze federal agency application and capability requirements to determine the cloud foundation needed to host and support services.
  • Define cloud infrastructure, networking, and deployment approaches in collaboration with Cloud Engineers and Cloud Security personnel.

QualificationsExperience
  • 12 years of experience.
  • May have supervisory or management experience.
  • Proficiency in cloud architecture design, including networking, scalability, and security of cloud-based solutions.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, including AWS and Azure; Azure is preferred.
  • Knowledge of cloud-native technologies and tools, including containerization, Kubernetes, and serverless computing.
  • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure, including virtualization, storage, networking, and load balancing.
  • Understanding of cloud security best practices, including encryption, micro-segmentation, and least privilege.
  • Familiarity with cloud management and infrastructure/configuration-as-code tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
  • Experience with DevSecOps methodologies and continuous integration and continuous delivery practices.
  • Awareness of microservice and service-oriented architecture patterns.
  • Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle and agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.
  • Experience with cloud observability toolsets.
  • Understanding of version control systems such as Git and their integration into CI tools such as GitLab CI.
  • Basic understanding of Linux administration and programming languages such as Java, Python, and C#.
  • Experience with identity and access management solutions, including Azure Entra ID, AWS IAM, and Keycloak.
Certifications - Candidates must upload a copy of active certifications.
  • Active AWS Solutions Architect Professional or Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification.
  • Active CISSP certification
