Job description

SouthCoast is Looking for a Full-Time Medical Lab Technologist Job Summary

Utilizes a working knowledge of required laboratory procedures necessary to collect diagnostic information with speed and accuracy. Incumbent ensures that laboratory tests performed in and sent out of lab are obtained, handled, performed, reviewed and reported in a manner that meets the needs and requirements of both the practice and all regulatory guidelines. Keeps abreast of advancement in clinical lab testing and reflects the current legal, ethical, and professional standards in all areas of responsibility.

Conducts tests on blood, bodily fluids and tissues to collect diagnostic information exercising proper operation of laboratory instruments.

Communicate with and assist physicians, patients and coworkers in a professional and courteous manner.

Proficiently performs laboratory procedures; maintains a clean working area.

Performs appropriate instrument/equipment startup, shutdown and maintenance as required; Responsible for proper documentation of maintenance, quality control, and quality assurance.

Performs quality control on all tests; replenishes reagents and ensures that supplies in well stocked in work areas.

Assists in maintaining patient files.

Assures patient care needs are met and where possible exceeded.

Ensures that all samples are collected and handled in a manner consistent with OSHA and CLIA standards and guidelines. Complies with all policies & OSHA regulations related to safety, cleanliness, and infection control.

Assist in training and monitoring the work activities of lab assistants in areas of proper documentation, lab procedures and policies.

Education

Medical Lab Technologist (MLT): Bachelors degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science. Successful completion of MT, CLA course of study.

Experience

Minimum of one year laboratory experience, preferably in clinic setting.

Requirements

Meet the requirements and successfully pass a national certification examination with an accredited certification agency such as, ASCP, NCA or AMT.
