Job Title: Certified Medical Assistant – Addiction & Recovery / Behavioral Health
Location: [City], IN
Position Type: Part-Time (up to hours per week)
Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, trauma-informed Certified Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) to join our outpatient addiction treatment and recovery clinic. Working under the supervision of a licensed physician or advanced practice provider, you will deliver empathetic clinical care, perform specialized toxicology workflows, and support patients undergoing Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) in accordance with Indiana law and clinical guidelines.
Key Clinical Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine clinical intake, including measuring vital signs, recording medical/substance use history, and performing COWS/CIWA assessment prep.
  • Collect and process biological specimens (urine, oral fluid, blood) for toxicology screens following strict chain-of-custody and CLIA-waived testing procedures.
  • Administer intramuscular injections (e.g., Vivitrol/Naltrexone, Sublocade) as delegated by the provider and compliant with Indiana MA scope of practice.
     
  • Perform phlebotomy, routine blood draws, and infectious disease screenings (Hepatitis C, HIV, TB testing).
  • Monitor patients post-injection or during ambulatory detoxification for adverse reactions or distress.
  • Sanitize exam rooms, manage medical supply inventory, and maintain lab equipment calibration logs.
Key Administrative & Compliance Responsibilities

  • Strictly adhere to federal 42 CFR Part 2 regulations and HIPAA guidelines regarding substance use disorder record confidentiality.
  • Coordinate prior authorizations for addiction medications, specialized labs, and secondary referrals.
  • Maintain non-judgmental, trauma-informed communication during patient interactions to foster engagement and retention.
  • Document all care, lab results, and patient communications accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Required Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma (or equivalent) and completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
