The Corporate Information Services Department is seeking a dynamic and talented Sr. Clinical Informatics Specialist – AI.

The Sr. Clinical Informatics Specialist - AI provides guidance in identifying, developing, implementing, and maintaining an efficient and effective clinical information system. Supports the organization’s overall clinical initiatives by applying an excellent understanding of clinical processes and supporting information technologies to optimize health information systems. Serves as the liaison between providers, clinicians, IT, and management.  As an advisor, this position helps shape and define current and future clinical information system improvements through daily interaction with individual teams both at corporate and enterprise-wide. Participates in strategic vision and planning. Provides continued customer support inclusive of supporting interactive education to enhance system and application comprehension. Facilitates the organization’s vision and strategy for clinical transformation, and actively engaging in managing system and practice changes. Serves as a mentor and role model.

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

Leads:

  • Plans, reviews and oversees implementation of activities, resources and timelines required to complete systems development projects, systems administration, and reporting.
  • Leads cross-functional AI workstreams to identify EMR enhancement opportunities and drive solutions.
  • Provides leadership in development, establishing ownership and maintaining work teams.
  • Apply broad clinical informatics knowledge (technical and process) with highly comprehensive specialized knowledge to enhance new clinical system features and functions.
  • Acts as IT Clinical management liaison to other IT departments as well as Corporate and Facility leadership and stakeholders. Oversees standardization of clinical system content.
  • Identifies novel ways to bridge the gap between clinical departments and Information Services Department, including evaluating AI Products to enhance EMR efficiency and quality.

  • Must demonstrate leadership potential and capacity to mentor, motivate and manage team member is regards to routine support, various meetings or efficiency projects.

Communicates:

  • Promotes and communicates decisions to other UHS corporate and facility staff.
  • Identifies educational needs and collaborates to design and implement end user education.
  • Provides mechanisms for soliciting ongoing feedback from users and responds and follows-up with concerns in a timely manner.
  • Keeps management well informed of activities, needs, and risks.
  • Partner with key departments to identify and implement system improvements to enhance workflow and processes.
  • Delivers expert knowledge of appropriate clinical design strategies to achieve or solve identified organizational needs.
  • Acts as resource for key decision makers by organizing relevant information and defining alternatives.
  • Articulates how new technology will impact current processes and procedures for the organization.

 

Plans:

  • Plans, facilitates, and evaluates improvements to operational workflow and processes in collaboration with facility clinical leadership.
  • Researches, analyzes, and makes recommendations for clinical application improvement.
  • Assures that system content and available education is linked to strategic initiatives.
  • Formulates reports, collects and analyzes data to identify trends that improve organizational performance and clinical outcomes.
  • Develops and makes recommendations to modify policies and procedures impacted by information systems.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of trends and issues in healthcare, clinical (nursing) practice, healthcare informatics and Joint Commission standards.
  • Works closely with the clinicians including physicians, departmental leadership, Patient Safety & Quality, Information Services, and Accreditation or Licensure departments to strategically select design, implement and guide the use of technology to ensure optimal care delivery processes.
  • Participates in strategic and tactical planning for clinical application development, reporting and enhancement with stakeholders.
  • Analyze multiple approaches/solutions to issues. Develops a recommended solution and manages the process for implementing the solution.
  • Complies with legal, hospital, departmental policies and procedures, and position requirements.

Other Duties:

  • Adheres to UHS Project Management standards and Change Control processes.
  • Provides on call after hours support for urgent issues as required
  • Maintains Service Excellence principles

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8 years successful experience as a systems user representative or analyst.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience with clinical information systems. Minimum 4 years Cerner Millennium experience required.
  • Minimum 4 years in healthcare environment experience required, as a clinician preferred.
  • Experience should include 1 year working in a health care environment in a clinical role.
  • Experience leading projects and directing the efforts of multiple people is preferred.
  • Product management fundamentals including backlog management, roadmap development, and value-based prioritization.
  • Experience translating ambiguous clinical or operational problems into deployable technical solutions.
  • Experience defining success metrics, KPIs, and outcome measures for digital health or AI solutions.
  • Experienced in clinical system application design, development, implementation, enhancement, support methods and practices.
  • Working knowledge of project management methodology, change control, quality and system performance methods and metrics.
  • Working knowledge of clinical practices and workflows performed in a healthcare setting.

Skills:

  • Ability to work with end users to determine software specifications and process improvement workflows.
  • Ability to create system documentation, project documents, education materials, reports and presentations.
  • Language proficiency in English, with excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Strong analytical and statistical skills and interpretive abilities.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to act independently and complete projects from beginning to end with minimal supervision.

License or Registration Requirements: Active Clinical license or Informatics Certification. Additional IT or Clinical certifications or credentialing is preferred.

 

Training:  Ongoing training required to keep jobs skills current.

 

Travel Requirements:   5 - 25% US domestic travel (depending on projects).
