What is a Clinical Director BCBA?

A Clinical Director BCBA is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) who oversees clinical programs and staff within organizations that provide Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services, often for individuals with autism or other developmental disorders. This role involves supervising and training behavior analysts and therapists, developing treatment plans, and ensuring high-quality care and compliance with ethical standards. Clinical Director BCBAs play a key leadership role in shaping therapeutic strategies and ensuring that client needs are met effectively.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Clinical Director BCBA?

To thrive as a Clinical Director BCBA, you need advanced expertise in applied behavior analysis, management experience, and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification, often with a master's degree in a related field. This is a working leadership role. You keep a caseload and you help run our center. If you're a BCBA who wants to shape how a program runs and coach the people delivering it, without stepping away from clinical work, this role is built for you.
As Assistant Director of Clinical Insurance Services, you sit on the regional leadership team and support the Director in running the Insurance based service line. You carry an individual caseload in the range of 90 to 100 billable hours a month and hold contract fulfillment above 90 percent. Around that, you lead. You run behavior skills training with RBTs and BCBAs, conduct periodic service reviews, monitor metrics, resolve conflict, and keep the region aligned to fidelity and policy. When the rest of the team or a family has a question, you're the person who gives them a straight answer.
What you'll own
• An individual caseload, target 90 to 100 billable hours a month, with contract fulfillment above 90 percent
• Supervision and development of service-line behavior technicians, BCBAs, and clinical support staff
• Behavior skills training (BST), periodic service reviews, and metric monitoring across your region
• Conflict resolution, internal and external, before small problems become big ones
• Region-wide retention and reinforcement systems you build and maintain
• Monthly department meetings (BTs, CSS' and all-BCBA)
• Fidelity and policy adherence, with clear plans and timelines to close the gaps you find
• Family support: meeting with center staff under your supervising BCBAs and helping build the documents and templates the program runs on
What we're looking for
• BCBA certification
• Masters Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
• Experience leading or supervising in an ABA or center-based clinical setting
• Someone who leads a team fairly and holds a standard without losing the room
• Strong writing, strong organization, and sound clinical judgment
• Active QBS (Safety-Care) Trainer certification, or the willingness to earn and maintain it. This role helps lead trainings at least twice a year
• A firm commitment to the BACB ethics code, HIPAA, and client confidentiality
Compensation and benefits
Salary range: $85,000to $92,000 per year • Benefits: medical, dental, vision, PTO, retirement, and other benefits offered • Other compensation: Reimbursement for LBA and CEU Library free to use
The honest version of this job
This role is demanding, and we'd rather you hear it from us now. You'll carry a real caseload and help lead the center at the same time, so managing your time is not optional. The work is physical. You'll lift up to 50 pounds, get on the floor, and hold a range of postures for long stretches. You'll work with children who have challenging behavior, which can mean blocking, redirecting, or safely holding a client during an aggressive episode using the techniques you're trained in. If that picture fits what you want and what you can do, we'd like to meet you.
Compensation: $85,000.00 - $92,000.00 per year
We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
