The Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology in the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is currently seeking a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor. The position will serve as a key clinical leader responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of solid tumor oncology programs. This individual will collaborate across multidisciplinary teams including clinical development, medical affairs, translational research, regulatory, and commercial to ensure the highest quality of care, innovation, and compliance in solid tumor oncology initiatives. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in solid tumor oncology, a strong clinical research background, and a patient-centered approach to leadership. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.
Responsibilities
Clinical Strategy & Leadership
Provide strategic medical leadership for solid tumor oncology programs across clinical development and/or medical affairs.
Lead or contribute to the development of clinical protocols, trial design, and regulatory submissions (e.g., INDs, NDAs, BLAs).
Serve as the medical expert in solid tumors (e.g., breast, lung, colorectal, prostate, etc.) across the organization.
Guide translational and biomarker strategies to support targeted therapy and personalized medicine.
Clinical Development
Oversee Phase I-III clinical trials in solid tumor indications, including safety monitoring and data interpretation.
Partner with regulatory and safety teams to ensure adherence to GCP, ICH, and local regulatory requirements.
Represent the company or institution at investigator meetings, regulatory discussions, and scientific conferences.
Medical Affairs
Provide scientific and clinical expertise in support of medical communication, publications, and KOL engagement.
Serve as a liaison with external stakeholders, including academic investigators, cooperative groups, and advisory boards.
Evaluate real-world evidence and support post-marketing surveillance, health outcomes, and value demonstration.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with research, marketing, market access, and commercial teams to support product development and lifecycle management.
Contribute to training and development of internal staff on oncology-specific topics.
Required Qualifications
MD, DO or equivalent degree. Board certification in Oncology or Hematology/Oncology. Licensed or eligible for medical licensure in GA. Minimum 5-8 years of clinical practice in solid tumor oncology. At least 3-5 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, academic research, or oncology leadership roles. Experience in leading or contributing to clinical trials, regulatory filings, and oncology drug development.
Assistant Professor - Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.
Associate Professor - Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Professor - Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with immuno-oncology, targeted therapies, or companion diagnostics.
Strong publication record or involvement in key oncology conferences (e.g., ASCO, ESMO).
Familiarity with precision medicine, biomarkers, and translational oncology.

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 304 students per class.
