About the Job
General Summary of Position
We are recruiting for a Principal Clinical Data Analyst to join our team at MedStar Health. Ideal candidates will reside in or near the DC/MD/VA region as there will be in person meetings required a few times per year.
This position reports to the Director Analytics & Insights within the Quality Data Analytics Center of Excellence (CoE) team. The team's objective is to empower a high-performing healthcare system through intelligent data-driven improvement & innovation. The position is a fully experienced professional with specialization within the analytics field who assists in the harnessing of data to advance excellence in clinical quality. This position leads team members on the fulfillment of data needs via collection management analysis and delivery of relevant meaningful insights that drive timely well-informed decisions.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develops advanced reports and dashboards using departmental templates and visualization tools.
  • Pioneers the adoption of more advanced analytic outputs and new visualization techniques and advanced programmatic visualizations. Evaluates and introduces new scripting/querying tools to the department.
  • Collaborates with the team to deliver relevant meaningful insights that drive timely well-informed decisions. Serves as facilitator or co-lead.
  • Collaborates with the team to uphold rigorous data quality governance and clarity so stakeholders can confidently rely on insights.
  • Engages with clinicians and operational partners to co-create solutions that inform actions and build data confidence.
  • Contributes to department productivity through teamwork professionalism and initiative. perform structured work assignments
  • Independently develops analytics approaches and methodology standards for others to follow. Consults with management to determine project objectives with long-term implications.
  • Provides guidance to less experienced colleagues
  • Facilitates or leads broad dialogue often across teams or departments on difficult complex or sensitive matters. Persuades others to consider various options and drives matter to conclusion.
  • Leads highly complex projects of large scope; projects may be cross-functional; provides solutions which set precedent.
  • Actively advises on department strategy and vision. Influences strategy by translating highly complex data concepts into actionable business plans and analytic outputs.
  • Recognized enterprise expert in clinical informatics data models. Designs descriptive and diagnostic analytic solutions that bridge complex clinical workflows with precise data capture.

Minimal Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in related field required
  • Master's degree in related field preferred
  • One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience
  • 8-10 years relevant experience required
  • Experience recommending data insights and business process improvement opportunities required
  • 12 years relevant experience preferred
  • One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrates expert-level use as a primary developer of current visualization tools (e.g. Excel Tableau Power BI) and standard templates.
  • Demonstrates expert-level use of analytic approaches & methods (e.g. measures of central tendency variance standard deviation etc.).
  • Demonstrates expert-level use as a developer of current analytic tools (e.g. Excel SQL Python).
  • Architect-level understanding of cross-domain clinical data. Leads the strategic alignment of historical EHR data concepts.
  • Ability to identify analyze and interpret trends or patterns in data sets.
  • Has expertise in testing and quality assurance methods.
  • Possesses excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team; may serve as primary data/analytic team member or representative
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex information to technical & non-technical audiences with ease
  • Ability to identify problems and propose seek and facilitate resolution.
  • Demonstrated combination of practitioner and expert level skills.
  • Expert in more than 1 business area/domain with experience leading product prioritization development and communication efforts.
  • Experience recommending data insights and business process improvement opportunities.
  • Demonstrated competence in foreseeing business needs and acting on own accord.
  • Ability to excel and exceed business expectations autonomously, leading and executing with limited direction in complex domain-crossing projects.
