Provides multi-task clerical support for dental clinicoperations. Works directly withpatients, residents, pre-doctoral students, and staff. Supports billing and collections efforts underdirection of Office Administrator.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsiblefor telephone coverage of the front desk, taking and distributing messages, andanswering all callers' questions.
2. Providesexcellent customer service to patients arriving for appointments. Contacts faculty,students, and staff to inform them of patient arrival. Provides tours of clinic facilities to specialguests and provides generally a hospitable environment for all patients andguests.
3. AssistsOffice Administrator with Student Orientation process. Conducts student orientation tours. Conducts exit interviews. Assists with training students on the clinicalpolicies.
4. Schedulesappointments to accommodate patients; resolves scheduling conflicts and fits inemergency appointments. Makes anynecessary arrangements for patients' special needs. Confirms appointments with patients for thenext business day.
5. Verifiescontact information and that insurance or medical assistance are still in force. Obtains insurance pre-authorization ofcoverage. Informs patient of today'scharges and any previous balance due before any service is rendered.
6. Completesclaims coding and submission on a bi-weekly basis for assigned clinic withdirection from Office Administrator.
7. Requests payment for any procedures inaccordance with the University of Maryland Dental School's policies andprocedures guidelines. Responds toinquires about patient's account. Requests payment when account is delinquent. Underdirect supervision performs account reconciliations.
8. Underdirect supervision, handles day to day payment transactions makes change;receives checks; processes credit card transactions; issues receipts; writesoutcome assessments for identified accounts.
9. Under direct supervision, handles allaccount correspondence for assigned clinic. May contact patient directly forpast due balance, payment plans, or to collect coinsurance or private payamounts.
10. Underdirect supervision, processes and reconciles daily receipt with AxiUM dailyledger and deposit receipts into the night deposit box.
11. Underdirect supervision, follows up with insurance carriers on unpaid claims.Completes and files reconsideration requests to carriers with additionaldocumentation or corrections.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Knowledge of standard office procedures; must be able tooperate computer and other office machines, such as fax, calculator, answering telephones,as well greeting visitors and. Skilledin filing documents according to alphabetic and numeric sequences; in operatingmanual and automated office equipment; Ability to apply close attention todetail in performing routine clerical tasks. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to maintain effective workrelationships.
ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Overtime, weekend, on-call and shift workmay be required.
