What is climate policy?

Climate policy refers to the strategies, regulations, and actions implemented by governments, organizations, or institutions to address and mitigate the impacts of climate change. This includes efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote renewable energy, and adapt to changing environmental conditions. Climate policy can operate at local, national, or international levels and often involves setting emission targets, creating incentives for clean energy, and collaborating with global partners. The goal is to limit global warming and protect both people and ecosystems from the adverse effects of climate change.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a climate policy analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Climate Policy Analyst, you need a strong background in environmental science, public policy, and data analysis, often supported by a relevant degree such as environmental studies or public policy. Familiarity with climate modeling software, GIS tools, and regulatory frameworks—along with certifications like LEED or GHG accounting—are commonly required. Strong analytical thinking, effective communication, and stakeholder engagement skills help analysts translate complex data into actionable policy recommendations. These competencies are essential to inform sound climate strategies, influence policy decisions, and drive sustainable change.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in climate policy roles?

Professionals in climate policy often navigate complex regulatory environments and must balance the interests of stakeholders such as government agencies, private sector partners, and advocacy groups. A key challenge is staying up to date with rapidly evolving climate science, international agreements, and national regulations. Additionally, climate policy specialists may encounter resistance to proposed changes and need strong communication skills to build consensus and implement effective strategies. The role frequently involves cross-disciplinary collaboration and requires adaptability to shifting political and economic landscapes.

Job description

About Charm

Our mission is to return the atmosphere to 280 ppm CO. We convert excess inedible biomass into carbon-rich bio-oil and inject it into underground storage for permanent carbon removal. At scale, we can use bio-oil to make fossil-free iron.

Our carbon removal efforts began in 2020 with initial purchases from customers like Stripe, Shopify, and Microsoft. Since then, we've scaled to thousands of tons of carbon removal, grown to over a hundred employees, and established three locations in San Francisco, Colorado, and Louisiana.

We're expanding our team of ambitious, creative, and hands-on problem solvers. We value psychological safety, collaboration, and continuous learning. We take calculated risks and treat mistakes as opportunities to improve. If you're excited about tackling big challenges, we encourage you to explore our company values.

Come help us reverse climate change. Gigatons or bust!

About the Role

If you lead with grit, think two steps ahead, and feel at home in the field-this shift is yours to run! Charm Industrial is looking for a steady-handed, people-smart Pyrolyzer Shift Supervisor (Field Operations Shift Supervisor) to lead our field teams in turning science into serious climate action.  You will enjoy work life balance with a 4-days on / 4-days off schedule with 12-hour shifts-more time to rest, explore, or just be weird and wonderful.

This role will report the Operations Manager.

You role in Action
Lead the Crew:
Drive shift meetings, coach team members, and keep everyone aligned on expectations. Create growth opportunities for Operators and Shift Leads by mentoring on the floor.

Own the Plan:
Execute the daily production schedule and make adjustments as needed. Coordinate across shifts to keep the flow moving smoothly and avoid bottlenecks.

Keep It Safe & Sharp:
Lead safety audits, enforce standards, and model safe practices in every task. Spot trends in training gaps, maintenance needs, or near-misses and take action fast.

Balance the Details:
Manage scheduling, timecards, and training compliance for your crew. Ensure clear communication during shift handovers and log everything like a pro.
How you Stand Out
Experience & Background:
(In good standing with no disciplinary action or write-up within the past 6 months)
3-5 years in operations, production, or field-based work-at least 2 in a leadership or team lead role.
Familiar with manufacturing, equipment-heavy environments, or fast-paced field ops.
Prior experience in oil & gas, construction, manufacturing, or industrial processing preferred.
Comfortable managing people, schedules, and shifting priorities.

Skills & Traits:
You've got eyes on everything-production targets, safety metrics, shift dynamics.
You coach in the moment, delegate with intention, and know when to roll up your sleeves.
You take pride in clean handovers, detailed logs, and holding the team to high standards.
You can flex between proactive strategy and real-time problem solving without breaking stride.
You understand the value of structure-SOPs, safety protocols, checklists-and follow them with purpose.

$39 - $44 an hour
What We Offer
  • Equity ownership through stock options
  • 100% employee healthcare premiums covered
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with multiple plan options
  • Employer-funded HSA contributions for eligible HDHP plans

  • Paid leave, including parental and medical leave
  • PPE and workwear allowances
  • Annual professional development stipend
  • Employee recognition programs that celebrate impactful work and team contributions
  • Opportunities for internal growth, career development, and transition into climate from a range of industries and backgrounds

Our Commitment

Charm Industrial is an equal opportunity employer. We hire based on skills, experience, and passion for our mission. Climate challenges require a wide range of perspectives and expertise, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds. We're excited to grow our team with people who bring unique strengths and help us improve as a company.

At Charm, we may use AI-enabled tools to support certain aspects of the hiring process, including organizing candidate information and highlighting experience that may be relevant to a particular role. In a world where AI-assisted resumes, synthetic content, and deepfakes are increasingly common, these tools help our team navigate the process thoughtfully and efficiently. Every application and resume is reviewed by a member of our hiring team, and hiring decisions are made by people, not algorithms. Our recruiting process is designed to ensure candidates are evaluated fairly, consistently, and in alignment with our equal employment opportunity commitments. AI tools support our team's work, but they do not replace human judgment or determine hiring outcomes.
