Job Summary: The SELT supports school administrators and teachers in providing effective educational programs for all scholars with disabilities; assumes responsibility for the knowledge and application of the appropriate curriculum and the instructional programs for students with disabilities; and complies with all federal, state, and school due process, policies, and procedures. The SELT will motivate fellow instructional personnel to strive for Centennialโs core value of EXCELLENCE and ensure rigorous STEAM-based and standards aligned instruction in every K-8 classroom for every scholar.
Essential Duties:
Duties of the Centennial Academy SELT include managing the compliance of IEPs for K - 8th grade scholars while also teaching a case-load of scholars. Other duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Case Work
- Models and supports special education instructional staff in organizing, identifying, and implementing curriculum
- Supports quality classroom instruction and its improvement in all settings through monitoring, observing, model teaching and coaching; assists teachers in improving classroom management and climate through the implementation of effective instructional methods
- Collaborates with school instructional staff to improve instruction for all scholars with disabilities (SWD) through monitoring and observing
- Reviews Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) for each SWD
- Communicates on a regular basis with school administrators regarding staff concerns, student achievement, discipline, etc.
- Monitors compliance implementation of IEPs and provides targeted assistance as necessary
- Attends all appropriate IEP meetings (legal, parental concerns, struggling teachers, initials, etc.)
- Collaborate with teachers, psychologists, and administrators to meet timelines for IEPs and evaluations
- Collaborate with building testing coordinator to ensure compliance of District and Statewide assessments
- Participates in professional learning activities and plans/delivers professional learning activities to staff, parents, and others to increase achievement for scholars with disabilities.
- Teaching Duties:
- Provides content-related and appropriate instruction based on Centennial Academyโs PBL and STEAM curriculum
- Integrates intentional technology into classroom instruction
- Actively participates and utilizes professional learning, specifically in the PBL and STEAM fields to support innovation
- Provides a classroom environment which promotes active learning in subject areas
- Exhibits knowledge of performance-based instruction and assessment
- Communicates responsibly with all students, parents, colleagues, stakeholders and school leadership
- Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communications
- Plans and facilitates rigorous and engaging lessons appropriate to scholarโs IEP
- Works with parents/guardians in all aspects of the student's educational program
- Prepares adequately for responsibilities to be assumed when absent
- Accounts for student attendance and punctuality
- Follows all county, state, and federal policies and procedures for scholars with disabilities
- Follows professional ethics in all work-related activities
- Avoids behaviors which detract from staff morale
- Builds a classroom structure where challenge is valued and expected
- Believes that successful outcomes are possible for all students
- Models Centennial Academyโs core values and set the standard for professional behavior
- Ensures high visibility during school hours to ensure a positive school climate and environment
- Accepts other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelorโs Degree required, Masterโs preferred
- 3 years teaching experience
- Must hold or be eligible to hold a valid Georgia Certification in one or more areas of Special Education; Leadership certification strongly preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication
