Job description

ABOUT US
At Talbot & Associates (T&A), we’re not your typical accounting firm. Founded right here in Manitoba in 1991, we’ve been making numbers look good and making clients smile for over 30 years. We’re a team of 90+ amazing humans who treat each other like family, share knowledge generously, and believe work should be rewarding and enjoyable. We take pride in helping our team members live their dreams, whether that’s advancing in their career, developing new skills, or simply enjoying life outside of work.

We’re excited to welcome a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Bookkeeper to our team in a full-time, permanent role. In this role, you’ll be the steady hand that keeps our clients’ books accurate, organized, and up to date. From preparing financial statements and working directly with clients, to collaborating with other team members to ensure everything is ready for reviews and filings, you’ll be the go-to for making sure numbers tell the right story.

We’re looking for someone highly organized, adaptable, and confident balancing multiple client files with precision and care. You’ll work closely with our leadership team, peers, and clients, so strong communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and a proactive approach are must-haves.

WHAT WE OFFER

We believe great work deserves great rewards. Here’s what you can look forward to:

  • Hourly pay for every hour worked, including during busy seasons, with the option to be paid out for extra hours or bank them for future use.
  • Health coverage that works for you, plus the option to invest the unused amount into a deferred profit-sharing plan.
  • Comprehensive group benefits including life insurance, dependent life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and long-term disability insurance.
  • Smart investment opportunities, including a group retirement savings plan and a group tax-free savings account with payroll deduction options.
  • A real voice where your ideas matter, and your impact will be felt.
  • Ongoing learning and career growth with tuition and course reimbursements.
  • Flexibility to accommodate special work hour arrangements, because balance matters.
  • A work culture built on trust, support, and fun. We celebrate wins, help each other, and enjoy social events together.
  • An open-door opportunity for wage negotiations based on performance.

WHO YOU ARE

  • A warm and positive individual who is intrinsically motivated and demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • An individual with strong organizational and time management skills who can prioritize workloads and effectively manage tight deadlines.
  • Someone with meticulous attention to detail.
  • A collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills, who can maintain effective working relationships with team members and clients.
  • An individual who understands the importance of maintaining privacy and trust and can handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Solid experience in bookkeeping within a public practice environment.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of bookkeeping experience.
  • Working on site (not hybrid or remote).
  • Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks Desktop/Online, CaseWare, and TaxCycle) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of payroll, GST/HST, PST, WCB, and related filings.
  • Knowledge of full-cycle bookkeeping and year-end preparation.
  • A problem-solving mindset and initiative to suggest improvements.
  • Bilingualism (French/English), which is considered an asset but not required.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Manage full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple clients across a variety of industries.
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, and other general ledger accounts with accuracy.
  • Prepare, file and review GST/HST, PST and other remittances.
  • Maintain organized client records and documentation for year-end preparation.
  • Collaborate with accountants on working papers, adjustments, and review points.
  • Communicate with clients to gather information, answer questions, and provide support.
  • Assist with onboarding new bookkeeping clients, setting them up for success.
  • Conduct peer review on bookkeeping files.
  • Train and mentor junior team members in bookkeeping technical skills, project and time management skills.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned, within the scope of the role and department.

At T&A, we believe in rolling up our sleeves together, sharing laughs between deadlines, and celebrating each other’s wins (big and small). We’re looking for someone who isn’t just skilled on paper but who feels right at home with us, a teammate who values connection, collaboration, and community. If you’re the kind of person who thrives in a supportive environment, loves being part of a team that truly cares, and can bring both professionalism and personality to the table, then we would love to hear from you!
