Job description

Provides customer service and laboratory-related communication regarding specimen submission and reporting of results to healthcare providers that use the UVA Medical Laboratories.
Job Description

  • Communicates patient results clearly accurately and effectively to laboratory clients.
  • Serves as a resource to clients regarding test requirements specimen submission and other laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Serves as a dispatch service for lab couriers.
  • Serves as trainer and role model for new staff.
  • Performs area-specific support activities.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent; or Medical Laboratory Assistant Career Study Certificate (CSC) or an official letter from the College stating MLA course work has been completed. Must meet Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act & Amendment (CLIA) education requirements for complexity of testing performed
Experience: High School Graduate or Equivalent - 2 years of relevant experience; or Medical Laboratory Assistant Career Study Certificate (CSC) - no experience required.
License/Certification: MLA(ASCP) within 12 months of hire
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires sitting, standing for prolonged periods, frequently, bending/stooping and repetitive motion: extension & flexion at wrist. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull less than 20lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
The pay range for this role is $21.95 - $34.02 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
