The Regional Technical Director will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring the technical quality and execution of all projects within the region, ensuring alignment with PBK Graphic Standards and Guidelines. This role requires a deep understanding of building systems, code requirements, client and office standards, as well as strong leadership to support Production Directors and project teams in delivering high-quality, innovative, and sustainable solutions. The Regional Technical Director will collaborate with regional leadership to drive technical excellence, maintain standards, and support business development efforts. The Director will help deliver high-quality, innovative, and sustainable solutions, while collaborating with regional leadership to maintain technical excellence, uphold standards, and support business development. This position also requires experience in project management and client relations. The ideal candidate will excel in creative problem-solving, particularly under pressure, and will be focused on PBK's business outcomes while nurturing client relationships.


Your Impact:

Technical Oversight & Leadership:

  • Provide technical leadership and oversight on all projects within the region, ensuring alignment with firm-wide design and graphic standards and guidelines, building codes, project management procedures, client expectations.
  • Collaborate with office leaders and project teams to resolve complex technical issues and provide guidance on best practices.
  • Act as an advisor to project teams on technical and project management issues, proactively helping to avoid claims.
  • Collaborate with regional specifications leader to ensure continuity.
  • Work with office leaders to establish a liaison within each office to work with office staff to ensure guidelines and processes are followed.
  • Ensure the application of cutting-edge technologies, details, materials, and sustainable design principles to project execution.
  • Collaborate with Practice Technology Leads to develop and maintain a Regional Detail Library and Region-Specific template to support all projects.

Project Delivery:

  • Collaborate with office leaders to ensure that project documentation-including drawings, specifications, and technical reports-complies with regulatory requirements and firm-wide quality standards.
  • Oversee technical aspects of the design, document development, and construction administration? process from concept to completion, ensuring project timelines and budgets are met.
  • Ensure effective coordination between disciplines (architecture, structural, MEP, etc.) to deliver seamless, integrated solutions by implementing Project BIM Execution Plan.
  • Work with office leadership to make sure we are maintaining project schedules.

Team Development & Mentorship:

  • Mentor and develop junior staff, fostering a collaborative and technically proficient team.
  • Lead technical training sessions to enhance the skills of regional staff and foster knowledge sharing within the firm.
  • Work with regional leadership, HR, and Practice Technology teams to implement a tiered training program for technical and project management staff.
  • Oversee Production Directors as they assign appropriate production staff to each project. Review staffing with Principal and team members weekly.
  • Deliver regular feedback to Practice Technology Team on the areas of improvement on the Guidelines, Libraries or Templates.
  • Collaborate with other regional technical directors regularly to identify needed changes in our standards or processes and share lessons learned.

Quality Assurance & Risk Management:

  • Implement and enforce firm-wide quality assurance processes to mitigate risks and ensure technical accuracy in project deliverables.
  • Conduct periodic technical reviews and audits of projects to identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions. Deliver regular feedback to Practice Technology leads.
  • Oversees Production Directors for QA/QC reviews at each deliverable. Ensures QC Checklist tasks are assigned appropriate to team members and follow up on completion.
  • Implement an online process for staff to report issues with specifications, document standards, details, legislation or code / jurisdictional issues.
  • Implement a process for review and follow up to correct necessary issues with documentation and standards.

Client & Stakeholder Relations:

  • Serve as the technical point of contact for key managers that serve clients, providing expertise and fostering long-term relationships.
  • Must be skilled in conflict resolution
  • Work closely with business development teams to present the firm's technical capabilities to potential clients and secure new projects.

Innovation & Best Practices:

  • Stay up to date with industry trends on details and materials, emerging technologies, and advancements in sustainable design, incorporating these into project work.
  • With Practice Technology Leads, promote the integration of digital tools, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and advanced simulation techniques in project delivery supported by practice technology team.

Travel & Engagement:

  • Travel 25% of the time to regional offices to maintain visibility, build relationships, and foster cohesive work standards across locations.

Here's What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture

  • Professional registration required.

  • Minimum of 15+ years of experience with a strong focus on technical execution and Project management.

  • Proven track record in leading large, complex projects from concept to completion.

  • Previous leadership or management experience overseeing QA/QC is preferred.

  • Exceptional problem-solving / conflict resolution skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure while maintaining the client relationship.

  • A passion for innovation, sustainability, and implementing best practices in design and construction.

  • Ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines and geographies to drive successful project outcomes.

  • Entrepreneurial drive to establish a department that will influence the performance of an entire operation

The actual offered base salary for California locations will vary depending on factors such as individual qualifications, education, experience, skills, job-related knowledge, work location, and internal equity. We would not anticipate that the individual hired into this role will be at or near the top half of the range provided, but the decision will be dependent on the factors of each individual case. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation in the form of discretionary bonuses in addition to base salary and a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits. The salary range for this position is below.

$110,930.00 - $166,395.00
