Job description

Position Summary
The Mechanical Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing mechanical fabrication and installation projects from initiation through completion. This role ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards. The Mechanical Project Manager works closely with engineering, production, procurement, and customers to manage project scope, schedules, resources, and communication.
Experience with modular fabrication (modulation) and pre-assembled mechanical systems is important to effectively manage fabrication, assembly, logistics, and installation planning. Knowledge of MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) systems is also essential to support coordination between trades and ensure successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
  • Manage mechanical projects from project kickoff through final completion.
  • Develop project schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Monitor project progress to ensure schedule, budget, and scope objectives are met.
  • Coordinate activities between engineering, production, procurement, and quality teams.
  • Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Provide regular status updates to management and customers.

Modular Fabrication / Modulation Oversight
  • Plan and manage projects involving modular mechanical systems and pre-fabricated assemblies.
  • Coordinate design, fabrication, and assembly of modular components.
  • Ensure modules are fabricated to design specifications and prepared for transport and installation.
  • Coordinate with logistics teams regarding module shipping, lifting requirements, and site constraints.
  • Support constructability reviews and modularization strategies during project planning.

MEP Coordination
  • Coordinate mechanical systems with electrical and plumbing components to ensure proper integration and functionality.
  • Work with engineering and installation teams to resolve design or coordination issues between MEP systems.
  • Review drawings and specifications to verify compatibility of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Assist in resolving field coordination challenges related to MEP systems.

Budget & Cost Control
  • Track project budgets and monitor costs throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review labor hours, material costs, and subcontractor expenses.
  • Identify cost risks and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Support project estimating and change order management.

Client & Stakeholder Communication
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders and customers.
  • Communicate project progress, challenges, and milestones clearly and regularly.
  • Coordinate project meetings and maintain project documentation.

Production & Fabrication Coordination
  • Work closely with fabrication shop leadership to schedule work and allocate resources.
  • Ensure drawings, materials, and specifications are available to support production.
  • Monitor fabrication progress and resolve technical or scheduling issues.

Quality & Safety
  • Ensure projects meet company quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Support quality inspections and resolution of non-conformances.
  • Promote safe work practices and compliance with company safety policies.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • 5-10 years of experience in mechanical fabrication, industrial construction, or project management.
  • Experience managing modular fabrication or modular construction projects preferred.
  • Experience coordinating MEP systems in industrial or commercial projects preferred.

Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong understanding of mechanical fabrication and industrial construction processes.
  • Knowledge of MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) systems and their coordination requirements.
  • Experience with modular fabrication, modular equipment assemblies, or skid-mounted systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings and specifications.
  • Strong project scheduling and coordination skills.
  • Experience managing project budgets and costs.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to visit fabrication shops, job sites, and construction environments.
  • Ability to wear required PPE when visiting production or field locations.
