Job description

Overview :

Responsible for the credit portfolio administration of Commercial credit and lending products, and resolution of operational issues in the post close/loan servicing function. Provide support to Portfolio Management in monitoring complex commercial portfolios and other tasks, research, and special projects, within the scope of the Commercial Credit Administration Department. Supports department goals for both growth and asset quality under the direction of the Commercial Operations Manager and delivers superior customer service to internal and external customers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains specialized knowledge of accounting loan systems, internal policies, procedures and systems/applications, and applicable regulatory guidelines and ensure any issues are addressed and provide resolution.

  • Deep understanding and interpretation of commercial loan documentation, including terms and on-going maintenance, to service loan portfolio post-booking. Conducts review of key legal and approval documents and loan onboarding checklists.

  • Participate in monitoring of ongoing credit risks of existing loan portfolios through continuous credit monitoring activities enabling the timely identification of emerging credit risks.

  • Loan Servicing Loan Servicing responsibilities include processing of payments, payoffs, portfolio transfers, entire function of loan advance, monitoring overdrafts, rate changes, payment delinquencies, maturities, third party reporting and other portfolio exceptions. Manages restricted loan reserve accounts and processes transactions in accordance with loan covenants and Risk's employee as signer account standards.

  • Responds to and resolves the most complex customer issues, collecting data and research and applying skills and experience. Position is relied upon for troubleshooting internal loan portfolio issues with structures, payments, billing, rates, restricted reserve funds, fees, loan sweeps, and is responsible for coordinating timely resolution with internal partners on behalf of the customers.

  • Main contact to customers for loan servicing requests and requires effective communication and collaboration with customers as well as other departments and business partners in the bank (primarily Relationship Managers, Banking Services, Closers, Deposit Partners, Portfolio Managers, PM Ops and Special Assets).

  • Monitors and follows up internal processing issues, on hazard insurance updates, on-going KYC remediation's, collateral documentation, in accordance with Credit Policy, Commercial Procedures, and thresholds established by Commercial Risk

  • Supports portfolio management in the annual review data collection process with status updates of key metrics related to overdrafts, status of real estate taxes, hazard insurance, loan delinquencies (last 12-months), deposit balances and liquidity levels for guarantor level reviews.

  • Responsible for maintaining a complete and accurate credit files and records for assigned portfolio and may assist with extracting documents during loan reviews.

  • Responsible for data governance of assigned portfolio including periodic reviews and updates in loan underwriting and accounting systems, of codes, values, and other data, at client/relationship, loan, and collateral level. Supports key credit data reporting initiatives and consistency among systems.

  • Responsible for monitoring and distributing Loan Delinquency dashboards and work with Relationship Managers, Portfolio Managers, and customers to resolve and collect requirements. Collaborates with Finance and Credit Administration to ensure accurate bank reporting of maturities and delinquencies.

  • Maintains M&T internal risk standards, including timely implementation and adherence to internal control monitoring and supports efforts to implement controls to issues raised by external regulators. Maintains up to date records of authorized signers for loan portfolio.

  • May perform other duties as assigned to assist management including but not limited to distributing and monitoring work assignments, participating in the training of junior staff members, identifying areas of opportunities for improvements, leading projects, and data clean-up efforts.

  • Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

  • Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities:

The Commercial Portfolio Administration capabilities include the following functions:

Validation of loan terms post-closing and monitoring future maintenance for the assigned loan portfolio, 2) Perform loan servicing transactions and troubleshoot internal issues with loan terms, 3) Monitor and resolve data exceptions for assigned portfolio including credit memo key data, coding exceptions, payment delinquencies, collateral exceptions 4) Validation and monitoring of key documents into the bank's credit file format 5) Support portfolio management efforts around annual review activities as well as early warning indicators such as overdrafts, maturities, extensions, third party reporting, document collection.

Education and Experience Required :

Associate's Degree with minimum 3 years' relevant experience in Commercial Banking Operations, Client Servicing/Loan Servicing, Portfolio Management Support, Credit Operations or Accounting or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 5 years' higher education and/or relevant experience, including a minimum of 3 years' relevant experience in Commercial Banking Operations, Client Servicing/Loan Servicing, Portfolio Management Support, Credit Operations or Accounting.

Strong and effective written and verbal skills.

Ability to remain courteous and professional when handling calls and sensitive customer information.

Organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to work well with a team.

Ability to apply knowledge of legal and regulatory issues to internal processes and demonstrate the ability to adapt to a changing environment.

Effective math skills for banking transactions such as advances, wires, payments, and loan fees to multiple systems.

Education and Experience Preferred :

Good understanding of commercial credit documentation and terms, financial statements.

Working knowledge of loan systems, AFS, nCino, FileNet, STOC and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) with ability to quickly learn other software applications as needed.
