Responsibilities
As an Associate Attorney at Divorce With A Plan, you will:
• Assist clients by understanding their needs, analyzing each case, and developing tailored legal strategies.
• Assist in managing all aspects of divorce proceedings, including the division of marital assets and real estate.
• Draft pleadings, motions, marital settlement agreements, judgments, orders, discovery plans, and related legal documents for a high-volume caseload.
• Attend contested hearings and trials; design and execute litigation strategies.
• Assist in leading negotiations and mediations; propose and secure practical settlement pathways (e.g., MSAs, consent orders).
• Conduct and defend depositions; prepare clients, witnesses, and experts for testimony.
• Collaborate with senior partners, associates, and paralegals to efficiently move cases through litigation.
• Supervise and mentor paralegals; review work product and provide coaching.
• Maintain organized, compliant, and up-to-date client files.
• Set and manage client expectations, ensuring a positive client experience.
• Consistently meet quality, productivity, and client satisfaction goals.
• Make sure that every client's expectations are properly set and met. Ensuring that every client is a happy client.
• Assist in leading negotiations/mediations; propose practical settlement pathways (MSAs, consent orders).
• Conduct/defend depositions; prepare clients, witnesses, and experts.
• Meet quality, productivity, and client-satisfaction goals.
• Contribute to process improvement and thought leadership in Maryland family law.
Qualifications
• A bachelor's degree with a legal background and a J.D. degree are required.
• Member in good standing and actively involved with the ABA (American Bar Association).
• Previous criminal justice or other legal background preferred.
• Experience representing plaintiffs and defendants.
• Able to demonstrate negotiation and communication skills, particularly in stressful and emotional situations
• Must be licensed to practice law in the State of MD (strong consideration for licensure in DC and VA).
• Prior experience representing clients in hearings, trials, and mediation is a plus.
• Persuasive writing skills and verbal communication skills are critical, along with management of support staff and interpersonal skills.
• Great legal research skills are a must.
• Must have 1-3 years of family law experience.
