We are seeking a professional with prior experience as a Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, or Assistant Controller who is ready to use their skills to drive business results and deliver high quality service to our clients.


The client-facing Accounting Manager serves Growth Operators’ clients by managing the accounting function and/or projects for our clients. Services are provided in the form of advisory services (specific projects) and outsourced services (interim or fractional roles with clients). Client relationships are overseen by the Client Relationship Manager, an HR Partner or Managing Director of the company. Work performed by the Accounting Manager on client engagements may include the following:


  • Advise, recommend, and implement accounting and finance best practices
  • Lead or support month end tasks – journal entries, account reconciliations, ledger tie-outs, etc.
  • Provide oversight of all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems
  • Project management - keep the project on track and identify opportunities to provide value to our clients
  • Assist with cash, treasury management, revenue, expenditures and payroll tasks
  • Assist in streamlining accounting processes and improving procedures
  • Lead and coordinate external financial audit activities
  • Develop and monitor accounting policies
  • Implement appropriate internal controls
  • Monthly financial statement preparation
  • Financial analysis, cash forecasting, variance analysis and budget-to-actual reviews
  • Due diligence tasks – preparing to acquire or to sell
  • Oversee A/R, A/P and/or payroll tasks
  • Various ad hoc projects related to drive growth at our clients

Required Qualifications and Core Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience with full-cycle accounting
  • High level of proficiency in MS Excel, various accounting and ERP systems
  • Enjoy working with multiple clients in a variety of industries
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to use independent judgment to work with and manage priorities of multiple clients
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment with clients and internal team
  • Strong project management skills
  • Must be able to spend substantial time in the Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN area for onsite client work as needed

Preferred Experience

  • CPA (active or inactive) and/or MBA
  • Background in mergers, acquisitions, and integrations
  • Prior experience in consulting or contract work
  • Experience working with private equity-backed companies
  • Project management experience

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a full-time position with some flexibility regarding work schedule and location.
  • FLSA Status: Exempt

Work Environment/ Travel

  • The work is performed on-site at client locations, remotely from home, and at Growth Operators' office in downtown Minneapolis.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones.
  • Travel is primarily local during the business day; some out-of-town and overnight travel is expected.
