Job Description:

Meade is seeking an experienced Director of Project Management to lead and develop a team of Project Managers. This role is responsible for strengthening project execution, supporting consistent delivery across a portfolio of complex engineering projects, and building the capabilities of the Project Managers they lead.

The Director will provide coaching, oversight, and accountability while working closely with engineering leaders to improve project planning, resource coordination, risk management, and client outcomes. They will help ensure that project plans are actionable, engineering estimates and dependencies are incorporated, and project information is accurate and current in Meade's project management platform, currently ClickUp.

The ideal candidate is a mature, credible leader with significant experience in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry. The successful candidate combines strong people leadership with practical project management expertise and knows how to improve operating discipline without creating unnecessary bureaucracy. They are equally comfortable mentoring Project Managers, addressing gaps in project plans, facilitating alignment with technical teams, and using portfolio data to identify risks and support better decisions.

Job Duties:

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Project Managers, supporting professional growth, sound judgment, and consistent project execution.
  • Establish clear performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and manage individual and team performance.
  • Oversee workload distribution within the team, considering project demands, resource availability, and each Project Manager's experience and capabilities.
  • Conduct regular project and portfolio reviews to identify risks, resolve barriers, and reinforce accountability.
  • Coach Project Managers through complex client, team, scope, schedule, and financial challenges.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • Build productive working relationships between Project Managers and engineering leaders, reinforcing shared ownership of project commitments and outcomes.

Portfolio & Project Delivery

  • Oversee project delivery within the assigned portfolio, ensuring alignment with client expectations, company objectives, contractual commitments, and available resources.
  • Ensure projects have actionable plans with clearly defined scope, milestones, responsibilities, dependencies, engineering estimates, and resource requirements.
  • Review project schedules, budgets, forecasts, risks, and changes to identify concerns and support timely corrective action.
  • Hold Project Managers accountable for maintaining accurate, complete, and current project information in the company's project management platform.
  • Partner with engineering leaders to improve estimating, resource planning, prioritization, and coordination across disciplines.
  • Ensure project risks, conflicts, scope changes, and client concerns are identified, communicated, and addressed proactively.
  • Monitor project performance and help Project Managers protect schedule, budget, profitability, quality, and client satisfaction.
  • Provide direct project leadership or temporary support when business or client needs require it.
  • Reinforce compliance with contractual requirements, industry standards, applicable codes, and company quality procedures.

Strategic & Operational Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with senior leadership, peer Directors, and engineering leaders to refine project management practices, tools, and reporting standards.
  • Promote consistent and practical approaches to project planning, scheduling, forecasting, risk management, change control, and project closeout.
  • Improve the quality and reliability of project and portfolio data used for operational decision-making.
  • Provide portfolio-level reporting on schedule, budget, profitability, risk, and resource utilization.
  • Use portfolio information to identify emerging risks, resource constraints, delivery trends, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support adoption of project management processes and tools through clear expectations, coaching, training, and accountability.
  • Partner with business development teams to support proposals, scope definition, fee development, project planning, and client presentations.
  • Support company initiatives related to growth, operational efficiency, quality, and client satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive project management experience in engineering, construction, design consulting, or technical services.
  • 5+ years in a leadership or management capacity.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Business, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, developing, and managing Project Managers or other project delivery professionals.
  • Significant experience in the AEC industry, with strong knowledge of MEP systems, data centers, mission-critical facilities, or other complex building projects.
  • Strong knowledge of project planning, scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, resource coordination, risk management, change management, and contract administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate technical scope into actionable project plans and coordinate estimates and commitments with engineering teams.
  • Experience improving project management processes, operating practices, and data quality across technical teams.
  • Proficiency with project management platforms and the ability to drive effective adoption and consistent use. Experience with ClickUp is helpful but not required.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, communication, problem-solving, and client-facing skills.
