Responsibilities:
As a Clerk's Helper at Gelson's, you will attend to the needs of every customer and ensure a top quality shopping experience. The Clerk's Helper will be responsible for providing
assistance to the Checker by bagging customer purchases and assistance to the customer by carrying out and loading purchases. You will come in direct contact with our customers, exceptional customer service is crucial.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide excellent customer service by assisting shoppers with product inquiries, locating items, and resolving any customer concerns.
  • Assist the checker in bagging customer purchases and provide customer assistance with carrying out and loading of purchases.
  • Retrieve shopping carts, using a cart retrieval strap, from the parking lots and surrounding areas.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of check stand area and ensure that cleaning and bagging supplies are adequately stocked.
  • Return non-purchased items to their proper shelf location and obtain price verifications as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations. Follow safety and sanitation guidelines to ensure a clean and safe working environment.
  • Embrace new challenges and be a flexible team player, taking on responsibilities as needed.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a grocery retail setting
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Ability to lift and move heavy items and stand for extended periods
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Knowledge of grocery products, merchandising techniques, and inventory management
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Physical requirements:
  • Continuous hand manipulation including, grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation
  • Reaching above and at shoulder level
  • Standing, walking, bending up to 8 hours per day
  • Walking on uneven surfaces
  • Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Working near hazardous equipment (Baler, trash compactor)
  • Exposure to dust, gas, fumes (Receiving dock)
  • Exposure to extremes in temperature (Coolers)
