Job Type: Independent Contractor (1099)
Schedule: Flexible

Job Overview

Clearpath Psychiatry and Counseling PLLC is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and clinically skilled Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) to join our growing outpatient mental health practice as an independent contractor.

This position is ideal for a psychiatric nurse practitioner who values professional autonomy, schedule flexibility, and the opportunity to provide individualized, evidence-based psychiatric care in a supportive outpatient environment.

The PMHNP will provide comprehensive psychiatric services through telehealth, including psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, medication management, treatment planning, patient education, and ongoing follow-up care. Providers are expected to exercise independent clinical judgment while collaborating with other members of the healthcare team when appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive initial psychiatric evaluations and follow-up assessments.
  • Obtain and document psychiatric, medical, social, family, medication, and substance-use histories.
  • Assess patients for a broad range of psychiatric and behavioral health conditions.
  • Develop appropriate differential diagnoses and establish psychiatric diagnoses using current clinical and diagnostic standards.
  • Develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans based on each patient's symptoms, needs, preferences, and treatment goals.
  • Prescribe, monitor, and manage psychotropic medications within the provider's scope of practice and applicable state regulations.
  • Monitor medication effectiveness, adherence, side effects, drug interactions, and treatment response.
  • Order or recommend appropriate laboratory testing, diagnostic studies, or referrals when clinically indicated.
  • Provide medication education, supportive interventions, and appropriate brief therapeutic counseling during patient encounters.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, medication risks and benefits, symptom management, and available resources.
  • Recognize and appropriately respond to psychiatric emergencies, including suicidal ideation, self-harm risk, homicidal ideation, psychosis, mania, severe behavioral disturbances, and other acute safety concerns.
  • Complete appropriate safety assessments and safety planning when clinically indicated.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with therapists, primary care providers, specialists, pharmacies, hospitals, and other healthcare professionals as necessary to promote continuity of care.
  • Refer patients to higher levels of care or specialty services when clinically appropriate.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, thorough, and compliant clinical documentation within the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Complete medication refills, prior authorization documentation, patient communications, and other clinically necessary follow-up responsibilities in a timely manner.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, professional standards, organizational policies, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Participate in clinical consultation and case collaboration when appropriate.
  • Maintain professional communication with patients, families, administrative staff, and other members of the treatment team.

Qualifications

  • Master's or doctoral degree from an accredited Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current national board certification as a PMHNP-BC.
  • Current and unrestricted APRN/CRNP/NP license in the state(s) where services will be provided.
  • Current prescriptive authority as required by applicable state law.
  • Active DEA registration when required for the provider's clinical responsibilities.
  • Ability to meet applicable collaborative or supervisory requirements, if required by the state of practice.
  • Current professional liability/malpractice insurance.
  • Strong knowledge of psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, psychopharmacology, and treatment planning.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric emergencies, suicide-risk assessment, safety planning, and appropriate escalation of care.
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to practice with appropriate professional independence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to provide high-quality care through a telehealth environment.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills.
  • Comfortable using electronic health records, electronic prescribing systems, and telehealth technology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous outpatient psychiatric or behavioral health experience.
  • Experience providing psychiatric medication management through telehealth.
  • Experience treating common psychiatric conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, ADHD, PTSD, OCD, bipolar disorder, insomnia, and other mood and behavioral health conditions.
  • Experience managing patients with multiple psychiatric diagnoses and complex medication regimens.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based prescribing practices and controlled-substance regulations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively while maintaining appropriate clinical autonomy.

Skills and Competencies

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Comprehensive psychiatric assessment skills
  • Objective clinical decision-making
  • Psychopharmacology knowledge
  • Differential diagnosis and treatment planning
  • Medication monitoring and management
  • Psychiatric consultation skills
