Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The role is responsible for performing janitorial duties and ensuring The Salvation Army Fort Frances Ministries and facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe, and sanitary manner in compliance with applicable standards.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.
Responsible for any combination of light cleaning duties to maintain defined work areas.
Ensure the weekly upkeep of the facilities i.e., empty all garbage receptacles, put garbage out for designated garbage day and return recycling and composite bins when emptied.
Vacuum all carpeted areas, sweep all tiled areas, wash floors and baseboards in tiled areas, clean all glass areas; windows and ledges etc. using a ladder where/when needed, dust all offices and furnishings.
Wipe down all tables, chairs, and door handles, checks, cleans, moves, arranges, and dusts furniture as required.
If applicable, ensure kitchen cleanliness, clean and polish sinks, toilets and counter tops, mirrors, and fixtures; clean washrooms (toilets, sinks, floors), restock washrooms and hand sanitizers, and distribute received material as required.
Identify/report to supervisor any repairs that may require an external service provider.
Check doors and windows to ensure building security.
Perform minor repairs such as electrical (change light bulbs) and plumbing (unblocking toilets, troubleshooting flushing issues), wall parch-painting, light furniture fixing (tighten screws) reports safety concerns and major repair issues to supervisor.
Spot wash accessible walls, strip and wax floors, spot cleaning, and shampoo carpets as required.
Ensure the general upkeep of external property, keeping sidewalks and entrances clear of snow and ice, including salting, litter pick up and up-keep of storage shed.
Lawn care at location.
Health and Safety
Monitor and maintain mixed cleaner bottles for custodial use. Ensure that all bottles contain WHMIS compliant labeling.
Keep food bank area clean and safe by adhering to all health and safety standards recommended by Public Health etc.
Contribute to the overall safety of staff, volunteers, donors, clients, and guests (e.g., clear fire exits, cleans spillage; no obstacles inside/outside the buildings)
Use personal prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer.
Report any workplace hazards, dangers, safety issues, injuries, or illness' immediately and ensure care is taken with all equipment and property.
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Be available to witness Safe opening/closing by authorized Staff.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work environment is typically at the facilities in generally agreeable conditions. Some duties (groundskeeping) should be performed outdoors.
The performance of the job requires operating industrial cleaning equipment and tools, mopping/sweeping, reaching, bending, twisting, lifting, occasional ladder work and fine motor skills.
Requires moderate to high attention when handling hazardous chemicals and using non-motorized/general cleaning equipment.
Ability to lift/move up to 49 pounds.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $19.85 with a maximum of $23.82.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
