Job description

Basic Qualifications

  • Ability to provide cleaning services within a commercial, industrial or residential environment. Must have solid work ethics.

Experience

  • Demonstrated history of related cleaning experience preferably with a major institution, and a solid work ethic.

General Responsibilities

  • The principal responsibility of the Janitor is to ensure the proper cleaning and maintenance of the facility in accordance with the contract requirements.

Specific Responsibilities (This listing of tasks is not all inclusive; other tasks may be assigned as needed, or only certain tasks may be assigned as your primary duty.)

  • Empty all trash receptacles in designated areas in accordance with the daily work schedules. Performs detailed custodial functions including floor care. Perform standard janitorial duties including dusting, detailing, vacuuming, sanitizing, waxing, buffing and stripping floors, and cleaning restrooms, common areas, and windows.
  • Clean all table tops, fixtures, file cabinets, desks, dividers, partitions, elevator doors, entry doors, walls and surfaces to ensure that they are free from dust and dirt in accordance with the daily work schedules.
  • Clean, service, and police all restrooms, dorm rooms, gyms, offices, lobby, hallways, classrooms, and manufacturing areas, etc. in accordance with the daily work schedules.
  • Stock all supply dispensers in restrooms and ensure that all shelves and surfaces are clean and dry.
  • Ensure that all glass mirrors and interior and exterior doors are free from smudges, stains, discoloration,

  • Spill Response:Clean up spills immediately to prevent slips and falls.
  • Safe Lifting:Use proper lifting techniques (bend knees) for heavy trash or recycling.

  • Cardboard Baler Safety: Before Operation

    • Authorization Only:Only trained personnel may operate the baler (Must be 18+ years old).
    • Inspection Checklist:Check for oil leaks, loose wires, and safety sign visibility before starting.
    • Inspect Safety Guards:Never use a baler if the interlock door or safety gate is damaged.
    • Clear Area:Ensure no one is standing near the baler when it is activated.

    Safe Loading and Operation

    • No Contaminants:Do not put glass, metal, plastic straps, or liquids into the cardboard baler.
    • Even Loading:Distribute cardboard evenly to avoid jamming.
    • Never Overfill:Do not fill above the maximum level.
    • Body Position:Never lean into the chamber or put hands/feet inside while the machine is on.

    Clearing Jams and Maintenance

    • Zero Energy:Disconnect the main power source and lock it so it cannot turn on while you are inside.
    • Remove Key:Remove the key from the machine when not in use.
    • No Hands:Use a pusher tool, not your hands, to clear stuck cardboard.

    Bale Removal (Bale-Out)

    • Tying Wires:Carefully feed wires through the bottom to tie the bale securely.
    • Bale Ejection:Stand well to the side when ejecting a bale.
    • Handling Heavy Bales:Use a pallet jack or forklift to remove the finished bale.
    • Stacking:Do not stack heavy bales too high; ensure stability.
