Job description

Recovery Specialist 

Full-time, Non-exempt, 40-hours per week 

Summary 

Provide overall support to SUD Counselors and participants including, but not limited to, conducting participant screening interviews, completing ancillary participant paperwork, facilitate groups (within scope of practice), and assisting participants with making appointments and providing transportation, as needed.  

Reports To 

This position reports to the Program Coordinator. 

Essential Duties 

  • Answer phones and provide prospective participants with referrals, as needed.  
  • Facilitate medication observation and complete all related documentation. 
  • Complete admission and other participant documentation (non-assessment) in SanWITS and Welligent. 
  • Assist participants with making appointments and providing transportation. 
  • Provide new participants with a welcoming experience by preparing their bedroom, organizing their health and comfort items, and conducting the initial luggage check.  
  • Facilitate participant acclimation by conducting the facility tour and sharing the basic program and household rules.   
  • Establish rapport with participants by engaging them daily regarding their recovery, encouraging participation in 12 step meetings, and providing transportation to and from, as needed. 
  • Facilitate interactive groups (within scope of practice), documenting attendance, and individual participant participation, as needed. 
  • Support participant in life skill development relating to personal hygiene, bedroom and bathroom cleanliness, meal planning, and household shopping. 
  • Manage participant participation in daily and weekly chores and conduct daily room checks to ensure participants are compliant with household rules.  
  • Participate in all assigned meetings (including quarterly staff meetings), staff development and training, as required. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 


Knowledge & Skills Required 

  • RADT, SUDRC, or Peer Support Specialist certification (including those actively pursuing peer support certification). 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office  
  • Valid Driver’s License with clean DMV record 
  • Pre-screen drug and TB testing 
  • Submit to background check 
  • If in recovery, a minimum of one year of sobriety.

Work Environment 

This position operates in a recovery home for alcoholic women, which is located in a multi-level household style facility, which is open every day of the year, 24 hours a day.  During a typical work week, full-time 40 hours, this position may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.  


The environment is fast-paced in a small, shared work space with participants walking in and out of the office at different times. Noise level is moderate and occasionally loud. Due to the nature of work there are rare physical outbursts and obscene language, and crisis intervention activities may occur.  


This role routinely uses office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, paper shredder, filing cabinets and fax machines, this role will communicate, listen, speak, read, and write with customers and coworkers.
