Job description

The description below covers the principal duties and responsibilities of the job of Lead Carpenter. The description is intended to be general in nature and is not to be construed as a complete listing of all miscellaneous, incidental or similar duties, which may be required from day to day.
- Physical capacity for the work, including:
o Lifting, carrying, Pushing, and pulling as the job demands and OSHA allows
o Working with heights (scaffolds, ladders, powered lifts, etc.)
o Prolonged standing, squatting, walking, bending, and repetitive motions
o Working in all outside weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, wind)
- Advance level Skill and knowledge in:
o Operating all power and hand tools effectively and safely
o Reading design drawings, form shops, rebar shops, & steel shops
o Layout using transits, builder's levels, lasers, chalk lines, etc
o Building to layout
o Operating equipment, including skid steer, compactor, air compressor, forklift, boom lifts, and scissor lifts.
- Able to teach and train:
o Operating all power and hand tools effectively and safely
o Use of shop drawings for layout
o Layout using transits, builder's levels, lasers, chalk lines, etc
o Building to layout
o Building square, plumb and level
- Coordinate daily function of Panel Masters crew
o Participate in schedule making and task planning with Superintendent
o Communicate the Superintendents plan clearly with all crew members
o Organize crew members on tasks according to their abilities
o Work side by side in all activities with carpenters and laborers, modeling correct procedures in all scopes of work.
o Motivate crew as necessary to maintain weekly schedule and daily goals
o Ensure all crew members are in proper PPE for assigned tasks
- Quality Control/ Quality Assurance
o Participate in layout or checking of the layout, but not both
o While working with crew encourage craftsmanship and correct poor applications
o Ensure tools and machines are receiving proper maintenance daily/weekly
- Communication & paperwork
o Communication to the General Contractor through upper management only.
o Must communicate effectively in English.
o Must communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking employees.
o In the Superintendents absence, able to fill out Daily logs and timesheets with guidance
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
- Maintain a current certification in first aid/CPR
- Attend continuing education classes in safety and best practice.
MINIMUM TOOLS REQUIRED OF ALL CARPENTERS
- Straight claw smooth faced hammer, nail bar, 25' tape measure, 100' tape measure, side cutting pliers (rebar tying pliers), wire reel, framing square, tri-square, hand level ( 2' min.), screwdrivers, razor/utility knife, Margin trowel, Mag float, tool bags
Typical workweek is Monday through Friday.
The workday hours will be established by individual project requirements.
Make - up days on Saturday will be required when the weather prevents working on regularly scheduled days.
Some schedules and tasks may require extra hours.
Position is paid on an hourly basis. Hours over 40/week are paid 1.5 times regular wage rate.
